Karen...? about hotels in NO
My Seattle trip was off for me but now I am going to go to Baton Rouge, the second weekend in Feb., with the same friend. On the way home for one night we would like to stay downtown at a nice hotel in NO, but not too pricey. Can you recommend one for us? I remember staying at a hotel, near the Superdome, a couple years back, which had an atrium. It was actually connected to the dome via a walkway. I can not remember the name. Any suggestions? Thanks!!! Annie
bump....even a nice bed and breakfast downtown would be ideal.... TIA
Annie, let me do some checking around this weekend. I'm embarrassed to admit, I'm not that familiar with the hotel/motel rates in the Quarter/downtown N.O. However, I am familiar with the one you are speaking of - we had dinner there before a Springsteen concert at the Superdome a few years ago. I *think* it's the Hyatt?? Give me today to check things out and I'll get back to you. BTW, if it's at ALL possible, I'd love to meet up with you, even if it's just for coffee. BUT, that *is* the weekend before my hand surgery, so I might not have time. I will get back to you later on today. :-)
I just have to say pppttthhh and stick my tongue out at you Annie ;-p. Fine! Come to Baton Rouge 5 months after I move. Just fine! I don't know NO hotels either, but I can recommend some good restaurants and things to do in BR if you need them. Have fun!
Karen, it was the Hyatt, thanks. I'll check out their prices. And as the time draws nearer to the date, we'll see if we can arrange to meet. I would love to! Pam, I'll be in BR for the day by myself while my friend attends her conference. Any ideas of what to do would be great. I may just stay in the hotel and order room service while soaking in the tub....all day!
Magnolia Mound is a plantation in town that's a nice tour. There's also the Shaw Arts Center downtown on the Mississippi and the Old and New State Capitol buildings. If you go to the Shaw Arts Center there is a great sushi restaurant with a neat atmosphere on the top floor called Tsunami. For local cajun food there is Dempsey's on Coursey (somewhat of a dive, but great food), Cheesecake Bistro on Bluebonnet, Boutin's on Bluebonnet (with cajun dancing). Arzi's has good Greek/Lebanese food and De'Angelo's is a popular place for pizza and calzones. Towne Center is a new somewhat upscale shopping area off of Corporate. Have fun and eat some good food for me. I don't miss Baton Rouge or the south AT ALL, but I do miss the food!
Check out Album One from or trip to NO in December. It's on the photo page. The HH Whitney House is a lovely B&B in Esplanade Ridge historic district close to the Quarter
