I signed up to train for a 1/2 marathon with TNT. :) I have to raise $2100!!! The race I signed up for is June 1st and I have to have 35% of the money raised by April 1st. That's also the day I can back out if I don't think I can do it.

So any tips on fundraising???

Dh is doing the Pan Mass Challenge this year. Here are some fundraising tips from their website.

Fundraising Tips
When you ask someone to donate to charity, you are giving them an opportunity to do something good for others, and, in turn, feel good about themselves. Here are some tips for your PMC fundraising campaign:

• Start early and have fun!

• Write a personal letter; create a newsletter or press release; hang up pledge sheets in your office; make in-person solicitations; design a poster – Be creative!

• Do not limit your mailing list. Write down every person you know. Create a database. Include friends, old neighbors, former associates, former classmates, friends of the family, members of clubs, fraternities, sororities, leagues, committees, organizations, alumni groups, etc. You may find yourself thinking, “I don’t know them very well; they aren’t going to give.” You don’t know how cancer may have affected their lives. This may be just the opportunity for them to make a difference. If you don’t give someone the opportunity, they definitely will not give.

• Make Giving Easy. When writing your letters, be sure to include a credit card pledge form and a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope.

• Send sponsors a link to your eGift or MyPMC Profile page

• Establish a personal fundraising goal, such as "heavy hitter," and let your potential sponsors know your goal.
Suggest a minimum dollar amount or put down options: $25, $50, $100 . . .

• Write a personal note of thanks to each sponsor. This will be particularly helpful when you ask for their support in the following year.

• Ask local community groups such as churches and rotary clubs to support you. Make a presentation at their next meeting and hand out pledge forms.

• In lieu of gifts on your birthday or other occasion, ask friends and family to make a pledge to your ride.

Cat - the person sitting next to me has been raising funds for TNT for many years. One of his most successful fundraisers is selling Mardi Gras beads when our local bars have special events. They do a Spring Fest and a few other fests throughout the year. He gets the beads for 3 cents each and sells them for $1. There are about 10 folks from the TNT group that get together to do this. He said sometimes people will just see what they are doing and stop and write a check on the spot. Leukemia & lymphoma touches more people that we realize. Bless you for doing this.

Which race are you doing?

TNT is Team In Training. This site will explain it best, but it's basically a group that trains for marathons, half marathons, triathlons, and bike races and they raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The money raised (over $850 million to date) is used for research, patient and community service, and public health education for LLS. This (2008) is TNT's 20th anniversary year.

I'm training for the Steamboat Springs Half Marathon. I think 13.1 miles is pretty ambitious for someone that's never run more than about 3-4 miles! lol I don't have to run the whole thing, but I'd like to try. :)

Thanx for the fund raising tips! A friend of mine signed up for a triathlon last night when I signed up for my race. We plan on getting together for some fund raising. I know there are people that will probably donate just because leukemia or lymphoma has touched them or their family. Dh's niece is a survivor (2 years now). :)
