SNOW - yuck

SNOW - yuck
And, of course, starting at the worst time of the day - 3 p.m. Wet, heavy snow with large flakes. My usual 25 minute drive took me 75 minutes and I was exhausted when I got home. Depending on the road, traffic was moving anywhere from 5 mph to 20 mph - which is OK, because of course no one should drive fast in this kind of stuff. I had planned to run some errands on my way home but decided to just get home and wait a couple of hours until most of the traffic is off the roads. Traffic is moving so slowly on the more major roads on which I drive (which are not really major roads, all just 1 lane each way, posted at 35 to 40 mph in most places with a stretch posted 50 mph) that anyone coming from a side street and wanting to make a left turn was just out of luck. Even if the traffic on the lane closest to them would stop and give them room, the other lane (the one they wanted to get into) couldn't see them and wasn't giving anyone a break. I'm really glad to be home. It's supposed to warm up and turn to rain and not freeze all night, so that's good. I have to admit, driving is not my favorite activity at best, and driving in snow in the dark is way, way down on my list of things I like to do.
I agree yuck i hate snow also just because i hate driving in it and the ice...i'm glad to hear you made it home safe and sound...did you get back out into it?
Glad you made it home safely. We dodged the bullet on this storm and it started out as snow, but now it's just raining.
Driving in snow, at night, really isn't my favorite activity, either! I'm glad you made it home safe and sound! Once, when I was in college, as I waited for the bus, around 3pm, it started to snow. By the time my bus got from the university to downtown Milwaukee, it was already a major mess. It took us FOREVER to drive down the main drag, towards the bus station. Then I had to get on another bus that would take me home. That bus still had to make its circuit around downtown Milwaukee. I fell alseep, on that bus, for a little while. When I woke up, we were still in downtown Milwaukee. Usually I got home around 6 or 7, I think. That time I didn't get home until 9. It took over 6 hours to get from the university to my home, about 25 miles away. My boyfriend was frantic that something had happened to me, since this was 1979 and well before the age of cellphones, so I couldn't have updated him somewhere along the way. That was back when I was about 18, and a freshman in college.
As much as I want the chance to PLAY in some snow, I certainly don't want to drive in it, much less in traffic OR in the dark! You guys ALL be careful!
Glad you made it home safely... I hate driving in snow. That is one of my major "panic" points. I get so physically nervous it wears me out to be on the roads. Having 4 wheel drive has made a bit of a difference this year though. Be safe Ginny.
