Fostering (answering Emily7's question)
Yes, we are a foster family. We're actually called Specialized Care Home Providers. We don't work through the Children's Aid, which is who places kids for adoption. We work for a Community Living group, who deal with only people with special needs. We are one of the only homes they have for kids, as most people choose this route for their adult children. It's a permanent placement, but the natural families are fully involved. We really love it, despite the craziness of our life!!! :o) It's wonderful for all of our kids!
I worked in a care facility for adults with physical & mental challenges, I loved it. I know that we do not have anything like what you are doing, its basically just a group home. I really admire you & your work. I am glad the natural families stay involved, but I bet it can get to be a bit of a challenge at times.
We've been ok with the parents, for the most part. We have had a few ups and downs, and we're having one of those downs right now, but we'll all come through it fine. My main priority is making sure that the kids have wonderful lives. Everything else is gravy.
