What a way to start the day!!!
This morning I was packing the kids lunches, and Emily, our new young lady, was eating her breakfast. Emily is 9, is non verbal, and has global developmental delays. She came in to me in the kitchen, looking terrified. It took me a few seconds to realize she was choking!! She obviously wasn't going to be able to clear it herself, so I started doing the heimlich on her. Nothing. She was losing her colour, and was losing strength. I screamed to hubby, who was still asleep. He ran up with his eyes half shut and took over. I called 911. While I was speaking with the woman, Stephen was able to clear her. PHEW!!! The fire and ambulance people still came, just to make sure everything was ok. Em was sitting quietly with Nicole, but started waving and saying "bye" to them. (one of her only words) Within minutes she was up and signing for more food, but I opted to give her an Ensure instead. LOL Just seemed a bit safer!! I sent her to school at noon, because she was perfectly fine. I took her ro the doc after school, and she said all was well. Unfortunately she won't remember this happened, so it won't make her start to chew better. TOO MUCH STRESS for a Monday morning!!!!!!!!
Wow! I am glad she is OK!
I am g;ad that everything turned out okay. Do you foster the children? I am just wondering because that is something my dh & I have always been intersted in doing, and was wondering if you could give us any input.
Oh my! How scary! Glad everything turned out OK. {{{Marcia}}}
Emily is fine and dandy this morning. She doesn't remember what happened. Emily7, I'm answering your question in another post, so I can give it a different subject line.
Glad it all worked out.
I am glad your DH was there to help and that Emily is doing good. I have had to perform the heimlich on my girls a couple of times too. That is one of the worst feelings to have when your child is choking.
That is so scary. Having my kids choke is one of my biggest fears.
That is so scary!! Shane has started to choke twice, from stuffing food in too quick. Thank God for Nate's quick reaction and a couple of backblows... I was scared stupid and frozen in place. I can only imagine how difficult it is with a developmentally challenged child, I'm glad you were able to react. Glad to hear she's ok!!
i am soo glad that she is ok !
