We have a new kitty-baby!
When we got back from vacation on Saturday we got up bright and early to pick up the newest addition to our family....Oreo! She is a long-haired black "tuxedo" kitty with a white patch on her chest and another on her lower abdomen. She is so sweet and has the loudest purrs. I had forgotten how much fun a kitten can be! She eats a lot and has been 100% with her litterbox. She did wake me up at 6:30 this morning with her *mews* and she wanted to play. I'll be ready for that little stage to cease. We haven't yet introduced the dog, but she met Keebler, our 12 y/o resident cat, this morning. They were several stand-offs, with some hissing and growling, but no out-and-out attacks. Oreo wanted to pounce on Keebler's tail and would run to get it and Keebler would hiss and look at me like, "What have you done bringing this thing into my house?" with an expression of cat disdain. I think they'll at least tolerate each other, but I'm hoping that they'll ultimately become playmates and/or snuggle buddies. Any advice on helping an old cat and a kitten bond would be appreciated! Trina?? I had taken our cat to the vet the week before we left on vacation and Oreo and her 2 brothers were up for adoption. I fell in love and DH said I could get her if I wanted. I waited 5 days to make sure it wasn't an impulse and she was the only one left. They said they would hold her for us while we were on vacation, so here she is. She was a stray and had to be hand-fed since mama cat wasn't in the picture. She's only 6.5 weeks old, but they weaned early and are perfectly healthy according to my vet. I had to sign my life away to adopt here and promise not to ever make her an outside kitty. I'll post pics soon, when I get them.
Oh, how exciting!! LOVE the name! My sister's MIL had a beloved tuxedo cat named Oreo. He is sadly missed. Yours sounds like a real sweetie. For now I would not leave the two cats together unsupervised. It might help to take a towel and rub them both down with it. This will transfer both their scents onto each other. It's supposed to help each cat accept one another. It may also help to rotate rooms that you keep Oreo closed in while you're not able to supervise both of them. This again will help Keebler to get used to and accept Oreo's scent. Be patient. It might take awhile. Be prepared for the fact that it *might* not work. I believe Cat had a pair of cats that just didn't get along. Let's hope Keebler accepts the young, whipper snapper! LOL! Last summer our 3 adult cats (9, 11 and 14) accepted two new kittens in about a months time. Shortly thereafter DS had a severe asthma attack, which we learned was caused by a cat allergy. Boo hoo! I guess 5 cats was too many! We had to find new homes for the youngsters. Sniff, sniff... (We're going to go visit one of them! I heard he's HUGE!!) Any pics?!
I love kittens..animals in general.
Congrats we just got new kitties ourselves and i thought they were 100% trained until i started moving things around ewww and then when we got home today right in front of our bathroom door i guess they know where the toilet is for us anyways.Yes please do post the pictures when you get them back i would love to see them = )

Congrats on your new baby!
Congrats on the kitty !
Congratulations on your new addition. It took 6 months before my cat would let our new kitten even enter a room she was in. But now they are best friends and kiss each other hello and groom each other. Just be patient.
