Wisdom teeth

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: Wisdom teeth
By Babysitbarb on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 - 11:00 am:

My 15 year old DD had her wisdom teeth out on friday and she has really done good. Her face was really swollen up until yesterday and still is slightly today. Some real light brusing started yesterday but, it doesn't look to bad today.
I felt so bad for her this weekend because we stayed home alot so she could rest and feel better because she started driver's Ed today.
She has really surprised me on how well she dealt with the pain and the swelling. I had two wisdom teeth pulled like 10 years ago and never had any problems and the Dh had 7 teeth pulled like 23 years ago before he had braces and did real good also.Im so realived it's over. Putting her to sleep was the hardest part for all of us.

Barb I'm glad everything went well:)

And I bet she's excited about driver's ed!

Does that scare you to know she will be driving soon?
I have never had to have teeth pulled, of course I just got my first cavity at age 29.

Were they severely impacted? 15 seems really young to have to go through that. I had 2 of mine removed when I was 21 and remember it like it was yesterday. I hope she is feeling better! :)

Yikes! Poor kiddo. Glad it's over and she's doing OK. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted 15 yrs. ago. They were impacted and got infected repeatedly. I survived but it wasn't fun. LOL!

Yes, they were impacted but not severly. The reason she had to have them out is, she has already had an expander and braces. Her bite looks wonderful but, her teeth are to big for her mouth still and her 12 year molars are half way up and locked into the other teeth and they had been that way for over 3 years. So we finally decided to have the wisdom teeth removed and they put some type of bracket on the molars that will hook to a bracket to hopefully pull the molars back into the right position. The surgeon did move them somewhat during the surgery(yikes).Yes, we are going to be putting the braces back on. We call her teeth her million dollar smile. Seems like that's what we are spending to get there.

Emily, you asked if it scares me that she will be driving soon? Yes, it scares me to death, even though we have been working with her for a while and she does really good. She won't actually get her driver's license until March 05. She will be 16 in february.
