What good news. Now, be careful about the weight issue, since you are pregnant. But it is certainly nice to have the question about your period answered - and just think, you already have an appointment with the gyne/OB. Good timing in more ways than one.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, May 30, 2004 - 10:54 am:

Congratulations, Kenna!

UGGHHHHH, morning sickness, lol!!! And now i need to figure out how to atleast not gain much more wieght after this baby!!! I know dieting is out now but i think i am gonna make an appt with a physical trainer to help me set up a program that will allow me to work all this fat and not hurt the baby, i don't want to try myself and mess up! I am not gonna diet so severe just try to eat better and healthier! i got toxemia with both the others and had SOO much water weight!

By Tink on Sunday, May 30, 2004 - 03:16 pm:

Oh Kenna, I am crying tears of joy for you. Hormones are a great thing in this case! I wish I knew how to do all the cute little posts because I would make one three feet long to tell you how happy I am for you! I think you are going to be a great mom of 3. It's a great number of kids to have! :) Just beware, you and dh will be outnumbered now!
P.S. I didn't like sex for the first trimester so that is so normal.

By Amecmom on Sunday, May 30, 2004 - 04:49 pm:

Kenna,
I've been doing a modified Weight Watcher's program. In the first trimester, I stuck to 20 points per day + flex points. You don't need to up your nutrition until the second trimester, anyway. In the second trimester, I concentrated on getting between 80 and 100 grams of protein per day and 1200mg of dietary (from low fat swiss mainly) calcium and 5 to 8 servings of mainly greeen veggies. I also tried to stay within the 20 point target. I'm also taking an essential oil supplement and folic acid.
Now that I'm entering my third! Yikes! I'm continuing, but making sure I get the full 100grams of protein per day (ex. 4oz of turkey breast has 25grams).
I have not been doing much exercise. I am finishing my sixth month and have gained ONLY 8 POUNDS!!!
My ob did a sonogram last week and the baby is measuring just where she should be, in fact, she's a 1/4 pound heavier that she should be at this point.
Get the right nutrition, stay away from junk - within reason - and you won't gain more than you need to.
I gained 40+ pounds with my son, half of which never came off. I won't allow that to happen again.
Good luck and congrats again!
Ame

Kenna, Congrats!!!!! That is SO cool! :) :) :)

By Karen~moderator on Sunday, May 30, 2004 - 05:17 pm:

Congratulations Kenna! I had toxemia with both of mine too. You need to eat a sensible diet, watch your fat and carbs and watch your SALT AND SODIUM! They will make you swell and raise your blood pressure. Drink PLENTY of water (Obviously, once you're past morning sickness - myself, water made me feel sick in the beginning), and get some exercise, even if it's just walking.

Good luck to you!

By Sue3 on Sunday, May 30, 2004 - 05:36 pm:

Congratulations Kenna !!

By Tink on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 11:55 am:

Kenna, I had toxemia with all of my babies and I wasn't offered medication for it until my last one. I don't know if you are aware that there is something you can take but I would ask about it if it becomes a problem for you again. A low-sodium/low-fat diet didn't help mine at all and walking wasn't an option since I was bed-ridden with it. Of course these are best and should be tried first but I thought you might be aware of them but not that medication was an option. Take care of your self and tell that baby that we can't wait to see him or her. Have you started talking about names yet?

By Ladypeacek on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 12:44 pm:

No Tink i had no idea about medication!! Low sodium is not a problem cuz i have never been big on salt stuff, i rarely drink soda, never ever add salt to anything, don't care for chips either. I have been thinking of names for a while, since we decided to have this last one but haven't picked on in particular, atleast we have names for girls, please NO more boys, LOL! My dh wants a boy though! I like Lauren Nicole for a girl, i really can't think of a boy name that i really want yet!

By Karen~moderator on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 01:21 pm:

Tink, medication wasn't offered to me either but the last time I was pregnant was 20 years ago too. I was put on a high protein diet when I was pregant with DS and it helped very temporarily. I ended up on bedrest with him, and then again with DD, and THAT was near impossible with a toddler and 2 adolescents in the house.

By Tink on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 06:05 pm:

The medication wasn't perfect. I still had to be careful of overexerting myself but bed rest was a hard thing to do with a 3yo and a 2yo (who wasn't diagnosed yet) so when I found out there was something I could take, I was so mad that it wasn't offered during my other two pregnancies. I still ended up spilling protein two days before I was scheduled for my C-Section but it made life a lot easier to manage since I could go to the grocery store or leave my bed long enough to shower and play with my other two kids. I don't remember the name of the medication but I would definitely ask about it so that your Dr. knows that you are aware of it. I love the name Lauren. It is so feminine. Surprising since it can be a man's name but I haven't met a male Loren under the age of 60...LOL We had a very hard time picking out a girl's name when I was pregnant with ds and had a hard time with a boy's name with youngest dd so maybe you won't even need a boy's name! It worked for me.

By Colette on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 - 06:33 am:

I developed preclampsia with my first pregnancy so with my second one, my obgyn sent me to Boston and they ended up having me take one baby asprin a day to help prevent it again.

By Amy~moderator on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 - 08:06 pm:

Kenna, sorry I am so late (I've been on vacation). CONGRATULATIONS, that is truly wonderful news!
