I am so upset. This is my church. My cousin saw this on her 6am walk and thought it was a body. Why would someone do this? Keep in mind, this is a BIG statue and probably weighs several hundred pounds. They would have had to carry it a bit of a ways to get it up the rectory stairs. I really hope they catch whoever did this.

It upsets me to know that somebody would do this to a religious symbol. I don't understand church burning & vandalism of church property, it is evil.

That must've been a nasty shock for the person who found it...what a shame.

I just wanted to do a quick update. I often read my hometown newspaper which covers the area where this took place. Anyway, three men have been arrested for this. They can't charge them with a hate crime because they can't prove that they were motivated on anti-Catholic or anti-Christian feelings. But their crime is classified as criminal mischief and is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in the county jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000.

Thanks for posting this Melanie. The priest wants us to forgive and not press criminal charges.

I hope they throw the book at them.

I think that charges SHOULD be filed, otherwise they've gotten away with a horrible crime. I'm glad they found out who did it.
