Mcdonalds got rid of super size it.
Kind of surprised, but I was in the queens farm and I saw an entire class of overweight kids so I guess it is a start.
well good for them, kids are getting out of control with fast food! With us its a special treat to eat fast food! And my oldest 9 only gets a happy meal, i can't imagine getting her a supersize adult meal!!!!!!
I'm not saying that it's not a good thing, but if you ask me, all the hype about fat and carbs has gone to people's heads. And unfortunately, it's gone to the ones who refuse to accept the responsibility for over eating, so they sue these large corporations because they are overweight and have heart and health problems from a life time of eating like that, which is NOT the fault of the corporations selling the food that they stuff down their own throats. But - hopefully with the super sizes missing from menus, people will opt for eating ONE regular meal, and hopefully not order twice the portions!
I agree with Karen, its not the fast food place that "make" us overweight and unhealthy. Its our own personal decision what to buy once we get there. We have to take responibility for ourselves. Imean when we go to the grocery store, the store is full of fattening and unhealthy choices, as well as healthy choices. We arent blaming the grocery stores for carrying full fat ice-cream, or cookies or chips... About 5 yrs ago I saw a nutrionist(dont know if I spelled that right).Anyways, she said fast food isnt bad, in moderation.. She went on to say that a kids meal, is the right size meal,(proportion size)for an adult. So that should give you some idea, how much extra is in a biggie value meal.
Oh, i agree its not the fast food place responsible. It made me angry to see a mom suing mcdonalds for her 14 year old sons weight when she is the one that bought it! GEEZ, where was child services. This boy weighed 400 pounds and i think that parents should be help accountable for that with neglect (providing its not medical). I just think that its good to see that mcdonalds is trying to help!
I agree that it isn't the Fast Food Corporation's responsibility to make sure that over weight people don't come in and order one of the Biggie or Super Size Meals. The fast food places have salads, fruits and yogurt now. It is up the adult to order a healthy meal for themselves or for their children, especially if there is already a problem with being over weight. I don't think I have ever ordered anything Biggie Size and I certainly wouldn't do it for my children.
They are also going to allow people to instead of getting pop & fries in the kids meal have other options. My dh super sizes everything & I had to finally tell him to stop. Even though I didn't want all that food, I found myself eating more than I should.
I agree Karen, et. al. that we are responsible for what we put in our mouths. Unfortunately in our society our portion sizes are so out of control that few people know what a proper portion size really is. These super size meals further skew our perception as a society. It's only when you start something like Weight Watchers which teaches that proper portion sizes and portion control are the way to a healthy weight and lifestyle, rather than eliminating certain foods from your diet, that you realize just how much food is really in a super size meal. All that said, I'll be sorry to see them go. I get a 10 piece chicken nuggets and a super size fries and it lasts my son all week. They are also great for sharing. Ame
I have had a love/hate relationship with McD's for years! Used to be, you couldn't get milk with a Happy Meal, and I definitely made it known how stupid I thought that was. (I'm not saying I'm responsible for it being available now, but... LOL) Also, I'm not a big pop drinker and I really miss being able to order a SMALL drink!! Or a BAG of french fries!! I order a small drink, and they give me a medium. I order small fries and they give me what used to be considered large. So, I end up throwing away most of my meal. Which I hate to do, but I'm not eating food and drinking pop just because it's there. So I'm very happy that the super size is gone, because it gives me hope that someday I'll be able to order small and get small again. Maybe.
My mom just told the mcdonalds by her has a dieters meal too, you get a salad and a water and a pedometer to count the calories you burn and the distance you walk. THats pretty good INO.
I don't think they should have done away with it. It makes it look like they are admitting they have done something wrong all these years. I like that they are offering healthier choices, but I think the Super Size stuff should have stayed. I completely agree with Karen. People need to take responsibility for what they put into their mouths.
I'm re-reading my post and my last sentence, "someday I'll be able to order small and get small again," implies my size. That's not what I meant. I MEANT that I'll order a small drink and get a small drink, rather than ordering a small drink and getting a medium drink. Just wanted to clear that up! LOL
I can't wait to see the McDonalds movie, what's it called Super Size Me? The guy got very ill from McDonalds food in just 30 days. I'm glad they got rid of the super size meals. It was messing with people's reality with what a normal meal size is. I think this country has a weight problem bec of the amount of food they eat.
Personally, we don't do fast food places like McDonalds or Burger King. My kids refuse to even eat at McDonalds they think it's disgusting (this is sometimes a dilemma when they are at a friends house and the parents take them there to eat - then they just get a drink). I do agree with Karen. If you eat super size or even regular size meals(I don't mean the salads) at these places on a regular basis, and you get fat and unhealthy, it's hardly the restaurants fault. It's a matter of personal responsibility.
Well what i hate is when you ask for a large water and you get it in a small cup.I mean i would pay a few cents for the cup if that is what the problem is geesh.Actually that goes for about anywhere though.
Colette - that is wonderful that your children refuse to eat at fast food restaurants. It sounds like you are teaching them about how to maintain a healthy diet, and that is so important. Kudos! I agree with everyone - what you put in your mouth is your own personal decision, and you are responsible for that.
I do agree that we're all responsible for what we put in our mouths. I did like the supersize meals for one reason--dh and I would order one supersize meal and then an extra sandwich and we'd split the fries and drink. Cheaper that way. Not that we eat at McD's very often anymore anyway. I take the kids there every now and then, but dh usually isn't with us when we go.
I got confused about a month ago when I went to McD's and asked for a super-size for my dh. They had THREE super-sizes- medium, large, and super. I went to McD's last week and asked for a super size for dh, and said I wanted the large, and I got the super anyway! Apparently, I got the order-taker-lady confused. sheeesh! No more confusion!
