It happened - dh's company out on strike
Please say a prayer today that this gets settled. The union called a 4 day strike on Friday. Dh worked all weekend. He is working 6am-6pm, and has a 45 minute drive to his work assignment. He has been up at 4:30 and not getting home until late. He is soooooo tired. The company is going to pull their final offer tonight at midnight if they can't come to an agreement. They will have to start over. We are worried that if that happens, the union won't return to work on Tuesday and it will be a long strike. Everyone is hurting. The managers that have to work these long hours. Some have even been assigned out of town away from their families. And the people on strike that are loosing pay. Maybe if we all say a prayer today it will be over at midnight.
I will be praying. (((Debbie)))
Sending a prayer up for you and DH and the other employees. {{{Debbie}}}
I always hated it when my Dad went on strike. I will be praying for a quick & fair solution.
Debbie, I'm a little confused. I take it your DH is not one of the ones on strike, but rather covering the workload of those on strike? Is that right? Either way, I'll be praying for a quick and fair resolution also!! (((Debbie)))
Yes Crystal, dh is in management, so he is not on strike. He is working extra hours to cover the workload. I know I should be happy that he is one of the ones working and not on strike. However, it is hard to explain to my ds's why their Dad wasn't here all weekend. Also, dh is salary, so he is not getting extra pay for all the hours he is putting in. He will work 12 hour days/7 days a week while they are striking. I just feel for everyone and am feeling a little sorry for myself. It was hard having the boys all by myself all weekend. I am used to dh being here and pitching in.
Debbie, My mom is salaried management, so I know it sucks. You work so much more than you are paid for, and take on all the BS when something goes wrong. It's always good that you DH is not on strike himself, but I didn't mean to imply that makes it easier on all of you. It's all kinds of stress and exhaustion all around. I hope it gets better, the union guys go back to work, and everything resolves!!
Oh no! Prayers coming your way. {{{Debbie and family}}}
let me guess he works for SBC ????? my MIL does she is management tooo there she is working 7am to 7pm they have to work 21 days straight before 1 day off i hope that this strike ends soon !!!
Yes, he does work for SBC. Crystal, I know you weren't implying that things are easier. I guess I just feel guilty complaining when it could be worse.
Sending prayers your way! Yvonne
Netscape News this morning reports that the strike is over and there is a tentative agreement. Is this true? Is your dh back at work? Sure hope so.
Ginny, he had to report to his strike assignment this morning at 6am. But he just called me and said yes, there was a tentative agreement. He is coming home around 1pm and then tomorrow he will report to his regular job. Yea, no more weekends. I was hoping this would get settled since next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. Thanks for the prayers and hugs.
Yeah I am sooo glad that this over I am glad that he is at he at home with his boy
