Lump Under Arm
I've had a lump under my right arm for about 3 1/2 months, I showed it to my midwife in February during my regular visit and she thought it was probably a lymph node. FF to last week. I went to my GP and he said it was definately not a node (it's been getting bigger) and that I should see the OB at my next prenatal visit and have him look at it. He did and is now sending me for a breast ultrasound and a consult with a surgeon. I am quite nervous about this, being in my 23rd week of pregnancy. Has anyone ever had something like what I'm describing? Could it just be something hormonal related to the pregnancy? My next question is, have any of you had to have surgery or have anesthesia while you were pregnant? Were there any risks to the baby? I'm sure it will be nothing - but I can't help but worry. Ame
I found a lump in my breast just before I found out I was pregnant with my son. I felt it, the nurse at Urgent Care felt it, the surgeon felt it, and so did my dh; but when I went & had an ultra-sound done on my breast it was gone. It could turn out to be due to the pregnancy. I am glad you are having an ultra-sound done though, because its always a good idea not to ignore a lump.
I had one under my arm that would hurt and swell for a couple of years. My GYN kept telling me it was due to the deodorant I was using. I finally went to see a surgeon about it because it was to the point of being very uncomfortable all the time, plus I was worried to death about it. It was removed under local anesthesia and turned out to be a fatty tumor - I forget the clinical name - but it wasn't something that would cause health problems. It's never come back and I've had no problems under my arm since then.
Thanks. I'm really hoping it's nothing ... Ame
I had a lump removed from my neck in February. I was a nervous wreck. Usually you can have them removed with a local anesthesia (like Karen mentioned). I had to go all the way under for mine because of the location. It was very close to my throat. Mine ended up being an enlarged (very enlarged) lymph node and no cancer was found. I haven't ever had anesthesia during pregnancy, but I'm sure the doctors will monitor you closely. Be sure to go with a doctor you are comfortable with. That can make all the difference in the world. ((((Ame)))) Keep us updated.
I had a lump removed on my back last yaer. I now have another one in the very same place. I also had a lump in my breast after I had my dd but it turned out to be a lump full on breast milk that they drained in the office with a needle. Keep us updated and try not to worry.
Opps full of not on!! LOL
Sending prayers your way that it is nothing! My sister went through a similar scare and it turned out to be a cyst that went away on its own. Yvonne
Thanks for the replies, good wishes, encouragement and prayers. I go for the breast ultrasound tomorrow. I guess I'll know more then. I've never had any type of surgery or even had serious testing for anything, so I guess I'm more nervous than I should be. Thanks again Ame
Had the ultrasound today. The radiologist didn't see anything, although the lump can be felt. Without actually saying it, because the doctor has to render a diagnosis, they implied that the mass is made up of the same tissue as the other tissue under my arm. I found that encouraging. They'll forward the test results to my OB and to the surgeon and I'll know more next week when I have the appt. with the surgeon. Thanks again. Ame
Good news!
Glad to hear it, Ame! I found a lump in my breast a few years ago, very scary. Mine was just a cyst that they drained but waiting to find out is so hard! I'll be thinking of you.
That is good news Ame. Hope everything checks out on the surgeons end too.
I had two or three lumps in my breast when I was pregnant, and they were nothing. I was nervous, too. My OB (boy is HIS wife a lucky woman ) was very gentle and told me that my hormones were in a state of controlled chaos and not to worry. He would check me all out after my son was born.
I've had three breast biopsies. I was scared as he~~ every time, but they were all fibrocystic and non cancerous. They removed all three lumps, and I stared taking Vitamin E daily. I've had no problem since, Thank God. I had two boils under my arm while pregnant. They were very painful. The doctor lanced and drained them.
