HELP Guppies!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: HELP Guppies!
By Colette on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 03:23 pm:

Dd just brought home 2 guppies. I had told the teacher we could take one but she gave us two. Hopefully they won't breed. Anyways, I've never had guppies only goldfish. Do they eat the same food? It looks like the same food. Anything I should know about these things? Any name suggestions?

By Emily7 on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 04:08 pm:

They breed ALOT! It has been years since I have had fish> Fred & Wilma (from the Flintstones).

Hey Colette!!!! I'm getting a little chuckle out of this one!!! Do you know why guppies breed sooooo much?? Because they are hermaphrodites! So, even if they had given you two females, you would still have offspring! I guess they can switch sex whenever they want!!!

Just a little useless info on this one! And, I guess, no help on names! Sorry!! :)

Oh great. Thanks Angela.....that's just what I wanted to hear.

Although, with my track record with fish it's probably good that they breed a lot.

Hmmm....maybe at the next birthday party we can buy little bowls and hand out guppies as favors?

Sounds like a great idea as long as you only give out ONE to each kid! :) Or maybe you want the other parents to experience the same joy you have found with guppies! Heeheehee...How 'bout Fred and Ginger or Bonnie and Clyde or Brad and Jennifer?

One last question...can I feed them regular goldfish food? I haven't seen any guppy food anywhere.

Colette, we have guppies. I checked the info. sheet that the pet store gave me and they are suppose to have tropical flake food, this is what we have. We have two males, they are more colorful, and they DO NOT breed. Good luck. We have had ours since March and they have been very easy to take care of. They are actually more active then a lot of fish, that is why we got them.

AAAAAHHHHHHHH They had babies last night!!! The kids slept in the tent last night so they don't know. Anyone want one?

Congrats on the new family members.

Oh gosh, thats a lot of fisheys. I was going to suggest Nemo and Dori for names but now Coral and Marlin for the first two, you can name one Nemo and the rest Marlin Jr. lol! I don't know, good luck.

well, the big ones ate ALL but one of the little ones, who I saved. So now we have a total of 3.

By Emily7 on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 07:03 pm:

Well I guess that takes of that. I hope your kids weren't to upset. I guess next time you are going to have to get a divided tank or a second one.

I found another survivor...so that makes 2 so far that they didn't eat, if I can find one more, then each of my dks can have one in their room.

what a pain in the butt, remind me to thank the teacher that started this.
