Headache Question.
Is there anything I can do for a headache when Tylenol doesn't touch it? Pregnancy brings on bad headaches for me. (I have one now.)Sometimes an ice pack helps and sometimes lavender oil helps too. Is there anything that works for you? I'm willing to try anything right now!
Call your doc and ask if you can take ibuprofin. I know it's not allowed in the third trimester, but I'm not sure about the first. It used to be. I know it's okay in the second. See if you can figure out what's causing the headache. Have you dropped your caffine all of a sudden? That can do it. If you're sure it's hormonal, there's really nothing you can do except to drink lots of water and keep your nutrition levell steady (eat small frequent meals). Water really helps! Hope you feel better. I had a sinus infection just into my second trimester that gave me wicked headaches. Motrin helped a lot. Ame
I used to get headaches when I was pregnant with Peyton. I found that getting a massage would keep the headaches away for about three weeks and then I would go and get another. If I waited too long in between the headaches would become just unbearable and Tylenol wouldn't touch it. I hope you find something that works for you. ((HUG))
I would get stuffed up with every pregnancy and it gave me headaches. The doc prescribed a decongestant that was safe and it helped a lot. P.S. Use any excuse you can for a massage!
I used to get the worst headaches too! I feel for you. I think Tink is right, I think I ended up taking a decongestant and that helped a lot. You can call the doctor's office and they will tell you which OTC to take.
Hi Eve! I heard somewhere that gaterade helps headaches. Feel better soon, hugs J
Sometimes a little caffiene will help them.
Thank you all. I'll be sure you write down the decongestant, and ask my Dr. about it. I took a Tylenol and had a Coke this morning. It dulled it a little, and it was tolerable, but I still have a dull ache. The massage does sound good today! (And you know, I am not a massage person. LOL!) Janie-I keep reading good things about Gatorade more morning sickness too. I think I might have to pick some up!
I have almost daily migraines, some less severe than others. The best topical product I have ever found is Migraine Ice...it's a stick-on ice-pack that is made by Mentholatum. You don't have to worry about leaving ice on too long or it losing its 'cool'. It gives a constant, even cooling sensation that is fabulous! It's not cheap (about 5 bucks for a package of 6?), but worth so much more - it lasts for hours!
Make sure you are staying well hydrated and caffeine always worked for me when preggo. BTW, Congrats!!!!
You might think this sounds nuts but it works consistently for my headaches when nothing else seems to touch them. Take some ground ginger (just the kind you can get in the grocery store) and mix it into a thick paste with some warm water. Then spread it both above your eyebrows and below your eyes. It does get warm so don't get too close to your eyes. I'm not sure if it is the smell or the warm feeling but it seems to work. I'm not usually into all natural rememdies so I was a non-believer but this one I hang on to.
2 Tylenol and 2 Sudafed (safe to take during pregnancy if you don't have high blood pressure) taken with a large mug of steaming tea (regular tea)with milk and honey. The liquid in the tea will help with hydration, the honey has carbs and sugars to help the med. work faster in your blood stream...I got horrible migraines while pregnant (get them when not pregnant, as well...) and this works sometimes in lieu of my migraine prescription (the Rx is so expensive, I always try this remedy first to see if it will go away without the expensive pills, lol!) It also works on my oldest DS's headaches, which I think are migraines. Hope you feel better soon!
Doesn't the first 3 months suck. Ilove being pregnant, except the first three months.
When I was pregnant with my little guy I got these terrible terrible headaches, I mean, my older son would sit and watch cartoons (turned down low), while I laid down with the room as dark as I could get it. It hurt to move etc... turned out it was my blood pressure. Usually, for me, if I have a headache, I need to sleep to get it to go away.
I drank small amounts of soda each day during pregnancy. I had to quit smoking so giving up caffeine too might have killed me. The soda helped my headaches. Have your teeth checked out, pregnancy can be so hard on them and give you headaches. I'm with Misty on the sleep, but with Syd that seems like a difficult task for you!!! Good luck, and let us know how you feel!!!
Hey Eve - I hope your feeling better today.
I must have missed something here..Didn't know you were expecting .{{{Eve}}} Congrats to you!!! Hope your headaches ease up. I had slight headaches with all 3 pregnancies but only took tylenol.. Once again Congrats and Best of Luck!!
I had bad headaches with my first pregnancy and Tylenol with Codeine really helped. I was even put on a Beta Blocker called Labetelol. These are both safe to take and both are prescriptions. Talk to your Dr and good luck!
I didn`t know you were expecting either ! Congratulations!! I used sudafed because it seemed with every pregnancy I was congested and stuffed up.
I feel your pain! All you can take that I know of is Tylenol. I drink a Diet Coke everyday so I don't get a caffeine headache or a glass of Ice Tea. Hope it goes away soon.
