Seborrheic dermatitis??? (form of excema)
My dd (5) has what the doctor says is seborrheic dermatitis. Does anyone have children with this or know anyone with this inflamitory skin problem? My dd has excema in the folds of her elbows, but I control that through her diet. But, she began getting this rash behind her ears and bumps on her face. ANY INFORMATION would be helpful. I know how kids are (mean at times), and if I don't somehow get it under control, then I anticipate many sad days ahead! Thanks!
My 2 year old son has it. We use a steroid cream, desonide and a moisturizer. The derm recomended Amylactin (sp), but my son can't tolerate it. His is bumpy, but not red. Ame
My dd started with a couple bumps on her face. Then, behind her ears were red and crusty as if they hadn't been properly washed. Now, she has bumps all over her face,& one or two on her legs. The ones behind her ears are spreading down her neck about an inch and are red with white centers. They look like small pimples that need to be popped. Is that what your son's looked like? I have been researching a little and it seems as if yeast may have something to do with it. What have you read about it? Is your son's under control? Does he itch? Where is it on him? And..last but not least, are you happy with the creams? Sorry for all the questions. Just worried about my little one! Thanks, Monica
He has it behind his ears, crusty, just as you describe. He also has it on his ears, just bumpy and a little red. He has it on the backs or his upper arms and in some spots on his legs, and on his face. The skin on his face does not look bumpy or red, but you can feel the little bumps. Very few have looked like the pimple type you describe. I does not seem to bother him at all. I try to bathe him every other day and then use a heavy moisturizer on him. I like Cetaphil, which is quickly absorbed and not irritating like the Amylactin (sp) was. The Desonide lotion is very good. I like it and it seems to help. The derm also prescribed Protopic for his eczema. That has been helpful for the SD as well. I don't mind the questions. I just wish I had more to tell you. I have not done much research because it has not been a mojor issue for him, yet. I can tell you I did try OTC hydrocortisone and Nystatin (thinking it might be yeast) creams, neither worked. Take her to the dermatologist, if you have not already. With skin conditions, my pediatrician has not been very helpful. Most important - dress her in loose clothing to let her skin get air and not get damp and also keep her out of the sun or use sunscreen. Sometimes sun can aggravate it. Good luck, and let me know how she's doing. Ame
