I Feel Like The Biggest Loser!!!!!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2004: I Feel Like The Biggest Loser!!!!!!!
By Fionadeassis on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 - 06:13 pm:

I'm the worlds worst procrastinator and it has screwed me up BIG TIME !!!!!!!!

We are in the process of buying our first home. Our realtor(my uncle) gave me a very detailed list of what paperwork I had to get done, and when.

I didn't pay too much attention to it-only doing what looked easy and leaving the things that I thought 'could wait a little while'.....

Well- the laywers office called me last night to tell me to come in to sign the whole thing...

They said 'oh-and don't forget to bring in a 'binding letter' from your home insurance company.

Guess who didn't apply for home insurance yet? ME!!
So this morning I called a company that a friend reccommended to me. I told her of my plight and she said she would hurry it along...but she needs a bunch of information such as.....what year was the roof/furnace/hot water heater/pipes replaced...what is the square footage of the back deck.....etc etc....

She cant do a 'binding letter' till she gets that information. I phoned my uncle and asked him to find out(without really telling him that I had just got on this and needed to get the info fast)..

He said it might take him a few days to find out everything.....but I think this signing thing has to be done pronto!! We get possesion of the house on the 21st.

Dh is still in Brasil. He gets back on Sunday. If he gets wind of any of this he will FREAK!!!

I am praying that my uncle will get the info fast and call me and then I can call the insurance company and they can get on it..then I can call the lawers office and set up an appt. this week...

Every time the phone rings I panic. I don't want to answer it in case it is the lawyer or someone else who wants to know something I can't tell them.... :(

So I just keep checking the answering machine to see who it was.....

I also screwed up a few other things for the lawyers-but they are minor and I can kind of get away with them.

But they are going to want to strangle me over this I am sure.

My uncle will be SO pissed! He has done nothing but gone out of his way to make this whole process easy, cheap, and quick for us. But he gets really mad when people are disorganized.....

Could I potentially lose the house over this? What happens if I am late signing because I can't get house insurance in time???

Am I the only loser out there??

fiona (oh yes- and I am nearly 8 months pregnant right now - so I have a BIT of an excuse for my disorganization)

I dont have any advice for you but I do hope it all works out in time. Buying a house
is so stressful! And yes to much paper work!

By Kathy on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 - 06:44 pm:

I can sympathize with the stress. We just closed on our very first house last Friday. I was freaking so bad on Thursday, but by the time Friday rolled around, I was a cool as a cucumber! The paperwork alone made me panic so much. I don't have much advice either...just that I know what you're going though. Hopefully, it will all work out for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

No, you are not the only loser out there! Being pregnant really does a number on your brain, and things really do just float out of your head. I don't know about the consequences of all of this, but try, try, try not to be so hard on yourself! I hope everything works out. :)

I would think that a lot of that information should be easily accessible..isn't most of that information that is included on the seller's disclosure???

Don't worry about it, you have a lot going on and in the end I would think that it would all work out just fine.

I live by "don't put off until tommorrow what you can do the day after tommorrow". I just think if I don't deal with it it will go away...Heck ask Student Loan Services..hahaha I waited until the week before Kindergarten started to get my son's Birth Cetificate...I only had 5 years to do it.

I know where you are coming from and it irritates my DH to death.

Fiona, I actually had the same thing happen when we bought our house. I thought I could just call our normal insurance co (Farmers) and get insurance no problem, but the house is so old they wanted all kinds of stuff like a certain kind of home inspection, with no guarantee at the end that we'd get the insurance. They wanted to know if the pipes were copper, and they probably aren't. Anyway, I got a letter in the mail from the escrow company's insurance...it was a mailer to sell insurance, and I called them. It turned out with these guys I didn't need the inspection or copper plumbing, and it was cheap. You might want to check other insurance co's, just in case. Sometimes the lender or escrow co's have insurance branches, or you might get some junk mail (you get a ton when you buy a house) with someone offering insurance. The big companies are really getting strict with insurance, and sometimes not offering house insurance at all, so you might try a smaller one. You can always switch in 6 mos if you find you don't like it.

Things are better now........I called the lawyer and he said that he doesn't need the letter from the insurance company really until we get possesion(that gives us one week to get the information). He knows the company and the woman I am dealing with and didn't seem too concerned about getting everything done in time......

So now I feel A LOT better.......

It is amazing just how stressful it is to buy a new home!!

Next week is when we move!!!!!!!!!!

fiona

Oh- Irene...we don't need an inspection-she just wanted to know the answers to the questions....

I remember how stressed I was when we bought our first house. I was 6 months pregnant and my mom kept telling me that if I didn't calm down and relax some that the baby was going to have terrible colic. :o) We survived though and you will too.

Hang in there.
