A few months ago I was cleaning out the kids room and noticed parts of the carpet was wet. I just took it that they spilt water or something on there floor. Well this past Saturday I was cleaning there room and noticed behind there toy box there was mold on the walls and I got to looking behind there posters there is mold the whole bottom part of there room is wet and moldy. I feel so bad not seeing it and my kids are sleeping in it. Monday dh calls 8 contractors to set up an appointment to come out and look at it and give us an estimate. Tuesday morning there were suppose to be 2 different contractors coming out to look not one of them showed up no call nothing so Dh calls another guy who says I will be there in 30 min yet again a no show so he tries one more guy takes hubby infor and tells him I will call you sometime today before I come out well 10 min later the guy is at my front door wanting to look at the room with 3 other guys. looks at the room and the room is an add on so when the previous owners built it they didn't lay a thick enough foundation the foundation is thinner than the back porch foundation so water just drains right under that part of the house. So its going to cost us about 4500.00 to have it fixed which we don't have so we call on our home owners insurance and this to me don't make any since the agent says well if its caused by floodind they wont cover it but if its caused by rain no draining they might cover it so. our insurance agent tells us to just file a claim and have them come out and look at it and he will say yeah or neah. But I am worried should I not let my kids in that room now they just sit and watch t.v in there but I am just affraid. but I tell you trying to find a contractor is something I don't know if people just don't want to work or they are to busy to work but dont set up and appointment if your not going to show up or atleast call.

Marie, I definately wouldn't let them go back in there.Mold can also be airborne, so they will be breathing it in. Have they had any nose bleeds, bad coughs, or broncial problems? I worked in a moldy building, and came away with a lot of problems from it.A co-worker got so sick from it, that she is unable to work. Her son even got sick from the airborne mold that she brought home from work. But she worked there for over 2 years.I'm not saying your problem is that severe, but I wouldn't let the kids go back in the room till it was finished.Sorry you are going thru this :) I know how frustrating it is !!

Some mold is harmless unless you have an allergy to it. Some can make you very sick. Usually this is black mold. I would make sure the people you have in to repair this are mold remediation specialists. You can get rid of the source of the mold and still have mold. Even the dead mold spores can cause problems. Hoevever if you have not seen any health problems up till now, my guess is that it's okay.

I don't know why contractors do that!!! Coming when you say you will or calling before you arrive just doesn't seem that hard. I really think it's something about planning ahead and making phone calls that they just don't like doing. I've had some contractors who have been good workers, great at what they do, but ask them to tell you what time they'll be at your house--forget it! But hang in there and get another opinion and estimate if you possibly can. I don't understand why water under the foundation would result in wet walls. Or is it going over the foundation? Any way, good luck! I hope it gets fixed (and paid for!) real soon.
