Need idea for a teacher gift

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2004: Need idea for a teacher gift
By Mara on Thursday, May 6, 2004 - 09:28 am:

I want to get my sons kindergarten teacher a gift at the end of the school year. She has been his teacher for 2 years and she is great, and he really likes her.
I don't want to do the same ol stuff. No coffee mugs, I want to be different. Something she will remember and love.
Any ideas for me?
Nothing too expensive please :)

A gift certificate to a book store or supply store.
See if you can get other parents to chip in and get her a gift certificate to a day spa or her favorite restaurant.

I like the gift certificate, a pedicure is always good this time of year too.

I am giving all teachers GC to a teachers supply store. They decorate the rooms I think with their own money. I have been giving Target GC, but we just got a teacher supply store, so I am going to try that this year.

If you go for the day spa idea, you should check to see if their is a policy about group gifts. Some people can't afford to give in yet feel ousted for not being in the group. We did that for 2 years and now there is a policy in place not to ask parents for money.

Good Luck

Gift Certificates are always great. I hate tryng to guess what someone would like.

Those are great suggestions.

I teach preschool and I love gift certificates anywhere.

Another thing I love- is the card with a hand written note saying how much I am appreciated. It just seems like sometimes that gets lost.

I used an idea last year that I got off of Mom to Mom a long time ago. I wish I remember who originally posted it to give them credit!!

We got flower pots and the kids painted them. Then they planted flowers. In the pot we put a sign on a popsicle stick that said, "Thank you for helping me grow". The teachers absolutely loved them.

One thing that we have always done that was a big hit was to make cookies. Then I get a plain cookie tin and ds decorates it. We did this for both of his preschool teachers. My ds loves to help me make the cookies and decorate the tin. In fact, I think we are going to do it again this year for ds's K teacher. I think the fact that it is homemade by ds makes it special.

Melanie that was my idea :) Glad to see someone else used it!

Awhile back, some of the moms got together and filled a basket with stickers, note pads, small toys, pencils, etc. for the kindergarten teachers. Most of what they give to the kids in the way of incentives come out of their own pockets.
