UPDATE - 4 year old losing hair

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2004: UPDATE - 4 year old losing hair
By Missymelissy on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 - 03:11 pm:

DS had his appt this morning - the Dr wants him to come back in a month to see how things are.

He doesn't think DS looks anemic (sp?), he did say it could be a cause, but right now he didn't think it was necessary to put DS through another needle for blood work.

Dr also said it could be if DS was sick 3 months ago (which I don't recall him being sick), hair grows in 90 day cycles and it could be dead hair falling out --- something to that effect, I can't remember exactly what it was.

Dr did a hair pull test (not hard) to see how much hair was falling out -- he would be more concerned if there were bald patches on DS's head and if he pulled out 10 or more strands of hair.

As for being tired more lately, he didn't say too much.

The DR did weigh DS just to see how his weight was - he's 37 1/2 pounds, he's gained since his last visit (4 year check up), which wasn't that long ago.

I'm just going to keep an eye on things and if it gets worse I'll get right back to the Dr., if it stays the way it is - we'll just go back in a month.

I happy that the doctor didn't seem to concerned. I never even thought of anemia. If he likes bananas you could give him one for a snack each day just to give him a little extra iron.

Glad to hear that the doc is taking this seriously. Hope things go well.
