Company dh works for may strike
We found out on Friday that the nonmanagement workers at dh's company will strike if they do not negotiate their contract by this Friday. I am so sad . Dh will have to work 7 days a week, 12 hour days until the strike is over. He will then continue this schedule until all the work at his job is caught up. He just left for a week to attend training for the job he will be assigned if they strike. He will not be back until around midnight Friday and if they strike he will start working on Saturday. Last time they went on strike back in the 80's it lasted for 8 weeks. He will miss all of ds's baseball games (he just started playing this weekend) He will miss our summer trip back to Texas. I also have a girl's weekend planned in 2 weeks with my 2 best friends that I haven't seen in 2 years. I won't be able to go if they strike. I just don't know how my dks will handle not seeing their Dad. He will leave for work at 6am and not get home until around 8pm. He will have to drive about an hour to his new assignment. Please say a prayer this doesn't happen. I also feel so bad for all the nonmanagement employees that will not be collecting a paycheck during the strike. I know a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck.
Many {{{HUGS}}} and prayers coming your way! I hope things are resolved without a strike.
Yes Debbie, I hope things are resolved with out a strike also. I am hearing so much of this lately. Good luck !
((((hugs)))) My DH works for a company known to strike. Every time it's contract season we hold our breath until it passes with no strike. It is a very scary thing for both sides. I hope that they figure something out for your DH's company and that the strike won't happen.
Oh Debbie, I'm so sorry, you've really had a lot to handle lately. Hopefully they will reach an agreement. {{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}
I guess I was just venting when I posted. I know I should be happy that we are on this end, and not worrying about not getting paid while the strike is on. We went through that after we first got married. We were both nonmanagement and scared to death we would strike. They didn't settle unitl the deadline. Soooooo, I am trying to think happy positive thoughts. It is just so darn hard sometimes.
Debbie, I am sorry you may have to go thru this!! yuk! My bil works for AA and when they were rearranging a few yrs ago (laying off) and trying to avoid bankruptcy, etc.. My bil (been there 15 yrs) who is non-management, was spared during several rounds of lay offs. However, they shifted him to a HORRIBLE job on a very hot dock (very cold in winter) and he isnt liking it. They also very kindly took away almost HALF his pay. He was topped out. Plus they took away some benefits. He is working 2 jobs now and my sister, who was a sahm, is now working a job during the hours her kids are in school, just so they can pay their bills. They are the *lucky* ones supposedly because he didnt get laid off. ;) His brother is in management there and didnt lose any pay--but I am sure has taken on twice the workload since they laid off so many! (so he didnt lose any pay -but probably is not getting paid near enough for the workload he is carrying now.) I wish companies would think more about their PEOPLE than the bottomline sometimes! I know thats not how the business world is tho. I think managers get treated so bad sometimes. Just like your dh having to take on loads of work--because the head honchos couldnt just work it out. grrrr this topic gets my blood pumping. Keep us posted! They might work it out before its all said and done!
