Question for all you E'bay users/sellers

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2004: Question for all you E'bay users/sellers

I have never been on E'bay. I hear alot of you talk about it. Is it really that cool. Is it easy to sign on to, and also how do you secure your credit card #. I have wanted to buy things via internet but don't feel secure giving my credit card number out. Does anyone else feel this way. I am sure alot of you are thinking What!!! never been on E'bay before? I have never. I guess if you don't want to pay heavy shipping you should stick within your own country, province? Maybe these are silly questions, I don't know much about E'bay. :)

Well i believe that your number is very secure through that site but i was also weary about using it online at all so i have a special account setup with a debit card and we only put money in when we know we are purchasing something online. Otherwise it has only the 10 dollars to keep it open! Ebay is very awesome! You can get ANYTHING on there. I get lots of clothes for my kids that are brand new with tags and one third the price! I buy alot of my craft stuff on there, my mother gets her plants for the yard from ebay. We get dvd's on occassion, we have bought a stereo for the car on there. Its amazing the stuff they have! I would definitely atleast look at the stuff they have, you can do that without signing up. I also seel my cross stitches i do on there too.

I have a terrible amount of trouble with people picking up my email address through ebay, any protection at all anywhere?

Once while using ebay, someone broke into my aol account, stole my password and sent 200 vulgar emails. I didn't use the computer much and didn't check it regularly, aol stopped my account, they knew at that point what happened and called me and informed me what happened. I received so many nasty emails and I tried to apologize to everyone and explain:(

I tried using ebay two weeks ago and people were still retrieving my emailing and sending me what I think was viruses:(

hmmm, Marg, i have never had that problem...i have been on for years! That is very strange! I have an email account also just for ebay but no one has ever emailed me except through ebay! I am so sorry you had such a bad experience!

I haven't had any problems with my e-mail through e-bay either.
I love e-bay :) I sell there all the time, and I buy there on occasion as well!
You can find almost anything you could ever want there. And lots of things you would never want!

You can just go to ebay.com and look around the site without signing up. But, in order to bid/buy something you have to sign up (which is completely free and fast!)

I buy on Ebay all the time and so far have not had one problem. I love ebay:)

I buy and sell on ebay. No problems (except with bidders who do not pay--but thats another story).
I love the fact that you can find virtually anything on ebay. I have bought a wide range of things on ebay. My latest purchase was a GPS that was $100 cheaper than Outdoor World AND included a software bundle worth $250 more. A great bargain!
I have sold clothing as a rule but have sold a boat, a jetski and an armoire before too.
The only problem I see with ebay is...its addictive!
I use paypal for all my transactions. It gives you added protection on purchases.
Marg do you have your email listed in your ads or your about me page? Thats the only way they can get it is if you have listed it.

Ebay lover here! I buy clothes for very cheap and sell things as well. My most recent purchase was Gap skorts for 5 dollars! I have been on ebay since 1999 and have never had a problem with email or anything. The only time I had an issue was when I paid someone for a dvd burner and they never shipped it to me. I spent alot of time trying to get ebay to give me my money back and after several months, I got about 75% of my money back from ebay. I appreciated that they tried to reconcile things and since then I have never had a problem. A good rule of thumb is CHECK FEEDBACK!!! I never buy anything from someone who does not have at least 75 positive feedbacks with no recent negatives. Feedback is a great way to see what kind of business people conduct. :)

I love Ebay, too. I just started using it this year. I got two really amazing pieces of jewelry. One is an 18K gold necklace with an ancient Roman coin. The other is and 18K bracelet that is really beautiful.
You just can't find these estate items in jewelry stores, and when you do , they are way too expensive!

I buy lots of stuff on e-bay and I pay by money orders. I don't even own a credit card. You can still bid even if you don't want to use a card. But, I'm not sure if you can sell without one. I've never sold anything.

I use paypal.com to pay for stuff. Very easy and fast.

Yes paypal is wonderful!!! I use it to pay for stuff on ebay and other places too! It also helps to send money to family, we had to get some parts for the jeep from the states and we used paypal to send the money do my FIL so he could get the parts and mail them to us!

Yeap, I like paypal, too. My sisters and I have used it to send money to each other. We have paypal set up to take money from a bank account and the credit card is set up as backup.
