How do you organize your recipes?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2004: How do you organize your recipes?

I have SO many that I love, but I can't keep track of them! Should I put them on my computer? Should I put them on index cards? I'd love to know how you keep them all organized.:)

Right now, I am digging trying to find a certain one! Grrr!

I have a binder type recipe book that I put all mine in. If I get it off the internet, I print it out and put it in the book.

I have a binder and label it "My Favorite Recipes". The ones I get off the internet I do the same as above. With favorites from cookbooks I just type or write them out and add them to the binder. Cook books that have tons of great recipes I keep. I don't find that many great cookbooks that have alot of good recipes in them so this works well for me.

I print most all my recipes of the internet.
What I did was to print them all out and I bought a nice phota album to put them all in.
I decorated the pages with cute food and kitchen
pictures I found on the net. It was fun.

I have a recipe box in my pantry, with my favorites in alphabetized files. I also collect cookbooks, and keep my collection in the kitchen where I can look things up easily. I have an alphabetized and cross referenced file on my computer with over a thousand that I've tried down through the years.

I have my favorite recipes taped to the inside of a cupboard door that's right above the counter where I do most of my food preparation. That way they never get lost, and I just open the cupboard door and there they are at eye level. :)

Trina, how many do you have?

By Eve on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 - 08:29 pm:

Thanks, everyone. Ok, my Ziplock storage bags of printouts and such is looking pathetic! LOL! I actually think I might have a recipe box! Thanks for the ideas!

Too funny, Trina! I have WAY too many to tape up, but I like that idea for measurements that I am always racking my brain about!:)

Annie, I have copies of 3 or 4 of my very favorite recipes on the inside of the cupboard door now. Much easier than digging them out all the time. LOL! Other than that I have all my cookbooks and recipes organized in a different kitchen cupboard.

Recipe books are lined up in my bottom cupboard. Favorite recipes are on recipe cards (not the tiny size...but maybe medium size!) and filed in a recipe box. They are filed by type of recipe....dessert....main dish....vegetable dishes....and so on.

I have a recipe folder on my computer. It seems the yummy recipes get typed up to share with others and then I save them to this folder. Then I tend to just print one out when I need it.

LOL, Trina, I was picturing 50 or 60 taped to your cabinet and wondered at what brand of tape was strong enough! ;)
