Dog urine in carpet
Our older dog had an accident on the carpeting last night. It stinks. I tried scrubbing it out with a cleanser and spraying with Frebreeze but it still smells. Does anyone have any household solutions for pet smells? My dh will rent a rug cleaner tomorrow but I want to do something now. Thanks.
Have you tried baking soda and vinegar?
From a cleaning site: "Use warm water and towels to sop up as much as you can. Don't soak it, though. You don't want to help the pee get even further into your carpet. Blot dry. Mix a solution of half water, half vinegar and blot it onto the stain. Rinse and blot again. The next day, sprinkle with a store pet carpet deodorizer or with baking soda. Let this sit for an hour and then vacuum well."
Thank you. I just did the vinegar/water treatment and will follow up with the rest tomorrow. Thanks!
Get some Nature's Miracle - it's for getting pet stains/odors out of carpet.
Karen, where do I find that? At a regular grocery store or pet store?
I bought something called Knock Out (not spelled like that, though), and it takes any smell out of anything. I bought it at the pet store. The owner told me he sells cases of it when skunks are out. If it can take that out, it can do anything!!
I second Karen's recommendation of "Nature's Miracle". You can get it at Petco or most pet stores. Not only does it work well with pet urine, etc. but human messes as well. DS vomitted on his bedroom carpeting and Nature's Miracle removed the stain and the smell!
Thank you. Welcome back, Trina. How was your trip?
