Anyones child have their adenoids removed?
We have an appt. for dd to go to the ENT on Tuesday for an assessment. We think she may need her adenoids removed. I'm a tad nervous about the whole thing. Did anyone's children have theirs removed? How was it? Was it painful? Did they have to miss a lot of school? tia!
My ds had his adnoids removed when he had tubes put in his ears. He was 2 when we had it done. He actually did very well with the surgery. He was done in about 20-30 minutes. It was done at an out patient center. We had it done early in the morning, and we were home by lunch. He was up and playing that afternoon. I don't think he had a lot of pain from the surgery, but he did have a lot of drainage, and a stuffy nose for about 2 weeks after the surgery. His doctor did say this was a very common side effect. My ds wasn't in school at the time, so I can't comment on that. From what I remember, he was a little under the weather for a few days, like having a cold, just tired, and not 100%, but after that he was fine.
Yes, when but he also had his 4th set of tubes and his tonsils out at the same time. The tubes and adnoids didn't require any recovery time. It was the tonsils that were painful. Since he's had his adnoids and tonsils out, he went from having 10 - 12 ear infections a year and constant sinus troubles, to maybe 3 ear infections in 5 years and only seasonal hay fever. Best thing we ever did and we regret not doing it sooner. He was 4 at the time and I wish we would have listened to the doctor and done it when he was 2.
3 of my 4 have had tonsils and adenoids removed. Jen had hers done as an adult, but Jules and Jeff were 6 and 3 when they had theirs out. Both of them had tubes done at the same time as well. I just remember the tonsil part being the *hard* part due to the extremely sore throat.
When DD was 5 she complained of a sore throat (this after a week with DS in the hospital). We looked in her throat and there was a lump the size of a golf ball. I'm sure back then I talked about it here on Mom to Mom. Anyway, she was admitted and it took 3 days to get the infection under control enough to remove her tonsils and adnoids. She was in the hospital another 3 days after the surgery but remember, she had been pretty sick before the surgery. I'm sure if your dd is otherwise healthy it will be a much quicker recovery.
Well her adenoids are fine so she doesn't need them out YAY!
Good news!!
I so remember that Paula, that was a trying time for you guys for sure.. And that is great news Patti..
