A weekend with my boys :)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2004: A weekend with my boys :)
By Eight_Kids on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 - 08:22 am:

FINALLY got to see my kids again. I don't know how many of you have kept up with the drama that I make my life, but I wasn't planning on worrying about any of that over the weekend (that's all posted in the parenting discussion part) I haven't seen my boys (16,14,13 & 13)since the end of January when I started having car troubles...FINALLY got all of that straightened out (back to driving the same car I was driving last year..hee,hee)
Really enjoyed watching all 8 kids together this weekend. They have sort of grown up together. When my dh moved into the house 3 door down from mine (this was how we met) his kids were 6,2 and 1 and mine were 5,3,2 &2. So it's been interesting watching them all grow up with all of the differences in their lives. This weekend the 16 and the 17 year old paired off together as usual, although I think Craig (my 16 yo) really missed his 17 yo ss. :) They were practically inseperable. My 14yo and dh's 12yo paired off all weekend with their Gameboys and their connecting cord. POKEMON FOREVER!! That left the my two 12yo, the 11yo and OUR 6yo. They do okay together. So I still have all my hair, and all my wits. Sometimes I wonder what they think at church....when the boys are here we take up 2 pews. :):):) All the teenagers came out of Sunday school with an 8 oz Hershey Bar....I thanked their sunday school teacher (who is also my boss:))for sending me in a car with 4 teenagers and 2# of candy!!! The funny thing is....they cracked me up the entire ride home. (2hr and 15 min on a good day)
I know this is long but I usually come in and post a lot of negative crap...I had a good day :) And it makes me feel good that I have the relationship with my boys that I do. It's come A LONG WAY trust me. (I was 24 when their dad and I split up...I had them for about 10 months and then they went to live with their dad and I sort of became sporadic with my visits and stuff...it was a bad time and I was a pretty crappy excuse for a mother...I guess I'm just really glad they've forgiven me.) Any way, I had an awesome weekend and wanted to let you know!! :)
Thanks

I just read your other post and have to say that it is very wonderful to hear how good your weekend went. It helps that all the kids can find middle ground and get along! Keep up the positive and everything will work out!

YEAH Beth! There's no better feeling. I'm so happy that you had this weekend with them. I hope it keeps going along the same path.

Sounds like you had a good weekend. And the thing with kids.... They forgive a lot fast than we adults do.. Hope things continue to move along smoothly...

I'm so glad that you are on good terms with your kids. It must have been great to see them! When is your next visit scheduled? Do you guys live far away from them?

I'm picking them up again this Friday...the every other weekend thing....dreading the drive but then I'm always dreading the drive!!! Have to talk to ex about summer this weekend..oh yea....it's never good. The last summer they spent at their grandmother and great grandmother's house in PA and I didn't see them at all...by the time they got back the 16yo had to start football practice...hopefully I won't have to go though that again!! I'll let you know how it goes!!!:)

Good luck! Have another great weekend!

Not picking them up this weekend. :(
I got a call at work yesterday afternoon from the school. Had to go get my dd. She has strep throat...AGAIN!!!! They say she's contagious until she's had her antibiotics for 24 hours and I thought that was a little 'nip and tuck' to be putting 8 kids in the house with THAT!!! :O She got it about 3 months ago and I was successful at 'contianing it' then (LOTS OF LYSOL!!!) and 50 million bottles of hand sanitizer. Hope we are that lucky this time!! I think it'll work out better this way anyway...17yo sd has SAT's an hour away Sat. morning....there is some spring carnival thing at the school Sat. 6yo has a b-day party to go to Sat night/Sun morn and 11yo sd has a sports banquet at 5pm Sunday. I will never rest until I am dead!!
I think I might go up and go to dinner with the boys next sun since IT IS Mother's Day!! Maybe I'll go get them and go to MY mothers!!
Anyway, have a great weekend! Mine will be busy!:)
Beth

I'm so sorry Beth, I hope things start to look up. I really don't know how you do it, you are one energetic woman!

We were told that when we had strep that you can get it really easy or are susceptible up to one year after you had it:(

By Dawnk777 on Friday, April 30, 2004 - 02:51 pm:

I'm so sorry Beth. I had strep throat 4 times in 8 months a couple of years ago! They almost wanted to take my tonsils out. We never got it scheduled, though, and I stopped getting strep throat so often. Now, I work in a clinic and have been exposed to strep countless times and haven't gotten it, so I'm counting my blessings.
