Relocating to Houston area

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2004: Relocating to Houston area

HELP! I'm new to this board, a friend sent it to me as a link to help me get some information on Houston. I registered yesterday.

I'm a 27 year old single mom of two. My son is 6, my daughter is 4.

I currently reside outside Shreveport, LA, and work for an oil & gas company. Well, they have decided they would like me to relocate to Houston with my boss.

They have offered me what I think is a decent salary, it's certainly more money than I 've ever seen in my life so far! I've lived in Louisiana all my life, here, in the country for the most part, and two years in New Orleans.

I'm scared to death!!!! Can anyone offer any advice on reasonable housing, good location, schools, child care, etc.....? And what would a good base salary be out there? What could I make it on with two kids?

My ex husband does NOT pay child support. He's over $11,000 behind right now. My case is through the state of LA, and I will be transferring it to Texas I suppose. I will have NO family, friends, or any type of support network once I'm out there. NONE.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Here, or via email jrkmorgan2@yahoo.com.

Thanks!!!

Houston is very large. There are several school districts in the city. Where is the office going to be located? Commuting is a big deal here because of traffic. It might be wise to rent for a while to get a better feel for the city.
