Getting a P.O. box and a lock box
What kinds of I.D. would I need to get a P.O. box? I only have my photo I.D., but I believe you are supposed to show two forms of id when getting a P.O. box. So what else would I be able to use? I also need to know how the post office handles it if my box got full before I was able to get my mail. I won’t be able to check the mail regularly. How do I get a lock box at the bank? Does it cost anything to get a lock box? I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while now because I want to find a safe place to put some values that I have. But I don’t know what I would need to show or do to get a lock box.
Don't know anything about a PO Box, but a lock box is generally one low yearly fee. I think ours is like $25-$30/yr. My parents live in the same town, so we actually share one.
I don't remember having anything but my drivers license for our old po box, but that was like 10 years ago.
I had a PO box for a number of years, and I don't remember showing anything other than a driver's license when I got it. The fee was like $30 a year. I also used to have a safety deposit box @ the bank, and that was $35 or $40 a year for the small one.
If your box gets too full, they will leave a slip in there telling you they have mail for you at the counter, and they'll keep it there for you till you pick it up.
When I got my PO Box I had to show ID and take a letter or a bill with my house address on it to prove where I was living and now they want both on anything we get. When it gets full they put a slip in there. I usually go for mine like every 5 days or so. My box is 24.00 every 6 months. At our banks you pay yearly for the boxes and no more then 2 people can go to the box at 1 time and you have to sign a paper everytime you go to the box.
I can get a free safe deposit box at a bank, through my mortgage company that is a bank. Worth asking about!
