Moisturizing Gloves---Confused!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2004: Moisturizing Gloves---Confused!!
By Kate on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 - 01:31 pm:

I am attempting to post this again under the proper title. I apologize if it insists on the Lion King topic again.

Okay, I just don't GET these things!! Why are they made of a cotton knit type material?? Don't they just absorb all the cream from your hands? I expected them to have a vinyl/plastic type lining so that your hands could simply bask in the cream all night long. Do these cotton things do any good? My hands are incredibly dry, with tiny breaks in the skin all over the place. I can't touch the rough part of velcro because the little spikes go right through the breaks in my skin and it HURTS. I go through this every single winter and I'm so tired of the pain my hands are always in. Does anyone know of a better glove for this problem? I mean, just putting the gloves on is enough to wipe all the cream off anyway! And yes, I do rub it in as much as possible, but I use Cetaphil and it's really thick and goopy so it's never truly rubbed in no matter what I do. I would love if my hands could just hang out in two jars of Cetaphil all night long, hence my wanting vinyl lined gloves. Any opinions?

I used to warm up olive oil and smear it on my hands then put socks on my hands before bed. It really helped my hands a lot!

Sorry, I've never used the gloves though!

What I have done in the past was smear my hands thickly with Vaseline, then put on plain cotton gloves for a few hours. My hands ended up incredibly soft and not a bit greasy.

I've used both 100 % cotton gloves and socks. Just slather it on, as thick as possible - vaseline works great, eucerin does too, don't rub it in - it always works great for my hands (and feet). I get horrible old lady hands if I don't do it in the winter. In the morning, most but not all of the stuff will be absorbed and your hands will be much better.

I've used the Vaseline as well with gloves and socks and it works for me.:)

Vaseline or Aquaphore (expensive , but really good) and plain cotton gloves work well. The gloves do absorbe the cream, but they keep remoistrurizing your hands all night long.
I have the same problem. Use gloves when you wash anything (except when washing your hands) and wear exam gloves when you do something dirty so you don't have to wash your hand too often.
Good luck.

I forgot another product that works *great* - it's called Glysolid, and it's a waxy cream that I believe you may only be able to get from a beauty supply store or through a stylist. It seems a bit costly for what you get (I paid $10 for 4 oz., but I swear to you that you don't use very much at a time, so I have bought 2 containers in 5 years - I really only use it when the skin gets really dry and yucky).

I,m chiming in with the Vaseline-but I put plastic bags on my hands-then the socks....works wonders....

In Canada(maybe everywhere-I don't know) we have a cream called Glysomed. I get it at Walmart. It comes in a green tube and is kind of waxy.It is awesome and I use it in the daytime....maybe it is the same or similar to what Kaye is describing.
