Does everyone color eggs....
for Easter? My kids get so excited about doing it every year. Its always a mess but they have sooo much fun If you do color eggs what do you use to color them? I just use the box of egg coloring from the store.
Yep! We color eggs each year. Usually on Saturday morning. We buy the egg dye from the store. This year we got sparkle egg dye and some other kind of paint that comes with paintbrushes and everything. There are so many fun ways to decorate eggs!
Yes, we always color eggs. I agree it is messy but the kids love it and so do I. I also just buy stuff from the store. I've tried different ones but I usually end up buying the kind that uses vinegar.
Yes, infact we are making hard boiled eggs this morning and we are going to color them on Wednesday night.
We do too. We color them the night before and make about 24 to 30 eggs. I've used both the egg coloring kits and food coloring. With some of them, I like to add a drop or 2 of food coloring in the water with the egg to give it a marbled effect.
We do! I don't want the day to come when the kids say they are to big to do this. But I went to buy white eggs instead of brown today and the store was out!
Yes I always do it. They love it, the first year I did it with my son He was 14mo, he broke every egg and colored it about 20 times. It was a mess, he had fun and that is what it is all about.
Yes! We only color 1 dozen. Enough to let each kid color and decorate 6. Then they sit in the frig until I throw them out. LOL! DD and I are allergic to eggs and DS and DH don't like them.
We color eggs too. We always get the box od PAAS to do it. It hink that that is what it is called. So what do you do with the eggs after they are colored? Do you eat them? Make egg salad sandwich? Deviled eggs? SOmetime i eat them, but unfortunately they usually all get thrown away, what a waste.
I love to do it!!! My DH isn't that fond of it, but he will for me.
Ours usually end up in the trash. I don't like hard boiled eggs. Sometimes (rarely) I will make a potatoe salad with them or do deviled eggs for DH. But, the majority just get thrown away. We usually let the kids take them outside Sunday afternoon and hide them for each other and for DH and I Most of them end up dirty and/or broken so to the trash they go.
Inevitably, a few will crack when boiling, so they get eaten right away. All the colored eggs get eaten in some form or another - egg salad, deviled eggs, or as a quick snack. Truth is, the eggs don't last the week around here! LOL
I always plan to, but Easter weekend always gets so darn busy. This year we WILL color eggs. None of us like hardboiled eggs though, so I think we will blow them out first and then just dye a dozen.
We go insane with egg decorating! Everyone colors a dozen. We have several type of kits. I have done this for years with my cousins, we keep kits year to year, the paint brush type, stampers etc. We always buy a traditional one and then a new kit. We spend several hours doing this, but we all just love it so much. We don't hide the real eggs, but we do eat them! All in all pretty quick, my kids love them!
Ours very rarely get thrown out. All my kids love hard boiled eggs. And what they don't eat I make either egg salad or pickled eggs. The only thing that drives me crazy is when there a little crack in the shell and you go to use them for egg salad its has funky colors in it after you have had them in the dye!!!
Yes we color eggs. Kids wont let me not color eggs. lol We dont hunt the colored eggs tho. Just the plastic ones. We also get the Bible out make the Easter Story cookie's the night before. That is really fun, I like doing that.
We buy 2 dozen, since three of us are coloring eggs. We eat a few and throw the rest out. We get different egg coloring kits from the store. We always have a blast and always make a mess. I always put newspaper out on the table first. I made the Easter Story cookies a couple of years ago. My oldest one wants me to make them again this year. Maybe we will color eggs on Friday night. We are always doing it Saturday night and it's part of why we don't get to bed early enough for getting up around 5am on Easter Sunday. (choir sings at the 6:30 service. I have to be there at 6!)
I make a few cups of dye with food colouring and vinegar. Then we dye about 4 eggs (I am the only one who will eat them)...this is what I have done for the last 2 years.. But now that ds is 3 and more into it, I will probably get a cool kit for him(the sparkle one sounds so cool!) and let him do a half dozen.. Thank God I am pregnant and hungry!!LOL!!! I will be eating deviled eggs like crazy... By the way...I saw a cool commercial for an egg peeler that looks like it really works.... it uses pressure on the little 'airhole' that is on top of every egg. The egg is peeled in seconds... I would eat a lot more hard boiled eggs if I had one of those machines... fiona
We color eggs each year-they always get eaten pretty quickly in our house-my daughters love boiled eggs and will eat two at a time. This year we got a new kind of paint-you just roll it on instead of dipping the eggs in the dye. I figured it would be easier for my two year old to do .
We haven't colored for the last couple years since my girls are 15 and 11 but I do boil eggs and put the wrap things on them. We have a big get together for my DH's side and they ask every family to bring one dozen for the hunt for the kids and I take those.
It's funny, but my daughter from college asked "are we coloring the eggs again this year", so of course we had to. My problem is every year I forget how long to boil the eggs - because we never make eggs in this house - so I always call and ask my neighbor.
Peggy, that is what always happens to me. I do the start with cold water and then let them sit in the hot water later, but I always underestimate just HOW long it takes for the water to boil with 24 eggs in the pot. This time I really did wait until the water was really boiling before I covered them up and took them off the heat. I actually got edible hard-boiled eggs. It took over an hour! I wanted to make the Easter cookies, but I got sick, so that took care of that!
I colored eggs for the kids' first Easter last year. We haven't had time to this year, we're both working 2 jobs, and today is my only day off. Thankfully the kids are too young to notice!! I love decorating eggs, and we eat so many in this house it's no problem using them up!!
We colored 1 1/2 dozen eggs last night, but we didn't use them for the egg hunt. I put gum, candy and coins in plastic eggs and we hid those in the back yard (a sunny 42 degree hunt!). We will eat the eggs. Dh loves deviled eggs and both boys like the whites but throw out the yolks. I did the same thing as a kid, except my mom would eat my yolks.
Never have colored with DD. she is turning 6yrs this May. I'm sad to admit, she doesn't even know you are suppose to color eggs. We use the plastic ones for the hunt. No one in our family likes hard boiled eggs, so I just have a tough time coloring them, just to throw them away.
I still boil some and we just use the wrap around things on them. The girls are 11 and 15 so they've kinda have out grown doing eggs. We take them to our big get together with the hubbies side and they use them for egg hunting.
Next year Dana have her color empty eggs. You can use the color shells to make confetti eggs! That way you don't waste the eggs, you can cook with them in other ways!
Kaye, I've thought about blowing eggs, but we rarely eat eggs to begin with. I do cook with them, but still it takes me quite a while to use up a dozen eggs. Maybe I'll start saving eggs the month prior to Easter next year. Or just find a friend who colors eggs at their house
