Snack for kids to make
I'm at work today, but since this is a work-related question...no guilt! This summer an OT and I are doing a camp at work for 5-6 y/o to work on handwriting and reading readiness skills. We will have 3 groups of 4 children each rotating thru my reading group, the handwriting group, and a gross motor group. For snack we are having the kids make their own snacks (all 12 kids together with 3 therapists) to work on fine motor skills, "reading" a VERY simple recipe (with some pictures on it), and following directions. I am responsible for coming up with 4 of the snacks and thought I would come to you for ideas. I need these recipes to be fairly simple and not too many ingredients (i.e., like "ants on a log"). It is probably best to have recipes that don't include peanuts or peanut butter since that is a high allergy group. We will be aware of any other food allergies when the kids start. TIA for any ideas.
Well, My kids love mini bagels and cream cheese, yogurt with granola, mini pizzas(made on bagels or english muffins) fruit salad...if I think of more I will post.
You can still make "Ants on a Log" but substitute cream cheese in place of peanut butter. Fruit kabobs - The kids could make patterns with sliced/cubed fruit on long kabob sticks String Cheerios, Fruit Loops, etc. to make edible necklaces I'll keep thinking....
Go to www.perpetualpreschool.com and look under all the different themes for snack ideas. Hope that helps.
my kids like "ants on a log" but I use cream cheese. I also go to the perpetualpreschooler for a lot of ideas...great site.
If you are reading any books about Spiders, my kids use to like making Spiders. small Chocolate donut (body) 8 pretzel sticks (legs) 2 M&M's (eyes) Not very nutritious I know.
LOL Conni, Our dds in preschool used to do the pretzel logs with chocolate icing and mini m & m's. Not nutrious, but really cute and yummy!
I've also seen the spiders using peanut and ritz crackers, you stick the pretzels in the peanut butter.
Thanks!
