I just found out i'm diabetic
we finally got health ins,so i had some test run.i was shocked to find out that i am diabetic!! i already have fibromyalgia,so i assumed all of my problems were associated with it.they also did an MRI of my head.i have moderate to severe numbness in the left side of my head,so she is checking for a tumor.i also have blood in my urine, and severe light sensitivity (in my eyes)that she hasn't been able to diagnose yet.plus, high cholesterol and high trigliserides !!!!so,please keep me in your prayers.also, does anyone know any good recipes for diabetics ?i've started using Splenda, and i love it.i'm going to a diab.class next week, but i would sure love some imput and encouragement right now.
Praying for you wanda. I used to work in a nursing home high school/college years. I used to cook for diabetics but it's been too long, sorry.
My fil is a diabetic. That could be why your blood work came back so high too. The main thing to do is cut out all the processed stuff, sugars, white flours, corn and potatoes. All those will cause your blood sugar levels to rise and you want to keep them as stable as possible. Eat as close to "pure" as you can..lean meats, fish, chicken, veggies, fruits, salads. I think Sugar Busters is a great way of eating for everyone especially diabetics. They have a pretty informative message board too. Also a recipe link http://www.sweettalkplus.com/cgi-bin/jboard/jboard.pl Here's another good site. http://www.shakeoffthesugar.net/index.html
HUGS and prayers coming your way. My Dad is a diabetic, and I'm high risk of developing diabetes. I had gestational diabetes while pregnant with DS. In fact, I was thinking of going in to get tested again because I've been feeling "off" lately, as if my glucose levels are out of whack. However, I haven't been good about limiting my carbs recently, and that's a big no-no! LOL!
Prayers your way Wanda. Diabetes - Do you walk? Exercise is key, even as important as eating properly. Alot of people can control their diabetes without medication by exercise and diet alone. I had gest. diabetes and am at high risk for getting diabetes myself. Like above eat foods as natural as possible. This may also help your fibro. although I don't really know much about that disease. Best to you. Keep us posted! It is hard and a strange feeling when you are first diagnosed with a disease isn't it!!!!
My DH has become Diabetic due to some meds he was placed on for other issues. He has early on set stage 2. We are trying to get his under control. He has been walking daily and I have to watch everything I buy. But I figure it is good for the whole family... It hit us pretty hard (just one more thing) but with time we have decided that it could be so much worse. After all this can be managed... Best of luck to you...
thanks to all of ya'll.i'm going to look up those links and see what they have to say.i hate to sound so dumb, but what actually is processed food? i also got the results back of my MRI.thank God,there's no brain tumor.there is something on the top right hand side of my spine putting pressure on it.but she said that shouldn't be causing the left side of my head to be numb.so i'm off to yet another dr.but thats ok.i'm type 2 diabetic.is that serious? so far this med that i'm on is making me sicker than i was when i first went to see the dr !!lol the funny part to this is ,i've been saying for years that i want to start eating natural foods, and get more exercise, etc. i actually have tons of books about it.i guess i'm going to start doing that now,huh !!!!
There are three types of diabetes. Type 1 is the type you are born with also known as Juvenile. And type 2 also known as Late life diabetes generally doesn't onset until after 40. And then there is gestational (while pregnant). It isn't any worse or better to have any of the three. And processed food is pretty much everything you generally buy.. Anything that goes through a plant to get to your store is a processed food for the most part. Canned veggies, prepackaged meals, breads, cookies, cereals so on and so forth.. They have preservatives etc. in them to give them a longer shelf life and are considered processed. You will need to find out what your daily intake levels will be and then you will need to start reading your food labels. They will tell you all about it when you go to your class.
I also should have said.. "It isn't any worse or better to have any of the three."... It all depends on how you treat yourself... If you take care of yourself you will manage well. If you choose to over look the condition it can cause major issues down the road doesn't matter how or when you get it the out come is pretty much the same.
Wanda, this may be a touchy subject with some but my experience with doctors has not been good. Not all but lots. You have to take control of your own health. If you can start by walking..it does not cost anything, you can walk at your own pace, and so many health benefits. Go buy yourself a new pair of runners to get you motivated. Drink lots of water and eat healthy. Nuts, oatmeal, peanut butter, eggs, low fat cheese, milk, yoghurt, tiny amount of fruit/serving. Half your fruit.Fruit is high in natural sugars. Do not drink fruit juices, even if they are 100% fruit juice. Lean meats, like chicken, beef is good. Instead of sugar you could use splenda (sugar substitute). This is how we all should be eating anyway. I'm not an expert but I do know quite abit about diabetes. You have probably already found the info. anyways on the web for yourself. Think of it as a journey and lifestyle change. It can be quite fun and rewarding. Just think by making the changes you could be saving yourself from dealing with something else in the future!P.s. Join in on the FITNESS board for GREAT MOTIVATION. I've lost 9lbs in 2 months since joining!
I am sorry to hear you were diagnosed with diabetes. I too agree that regular excersise will help a great deal. Even if its 10 minutes a day to begin with.
Just supporting what Texannie has said previously regarding avoiding of sugars, white flours, corn and potatoes to control triglycerides and blood pressure. My Triglyceride level went from 300+ to 80, and BP from 140/85 to 110/70 after I did that. If you are not taking insulin, your condition evolved from something called insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome. Most people with this condition (my mother included) take medications such as Glyberide and Avandia to increase their sensitivity to insulin. But diet is crucial to avoid health problems. Of course I'm not a doctor so please discuss it with her/him first.
thank you .you all have been so sweet.i actually need to lose about 40/50 lbs.and i love to walk, but with fibro,i just don't seem to have the energy.i'm thinking now that my tiredness and fatique wasn't solely from the fibro, but a big part of it is from the diabetes.i'm already feeling better from the changes i've made .
