Food Saver/ Vacuum Sealer

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Food Saver/ Vacuum Sealer

Does anyone have one? Dh and I would like to get one and buy like a month's worth of meat at a time. We have plenty of freezer room with three refridgeraters (one in the kitchen, one in the garage and one in the basement--got two of them dirt cheap) and a chest freezer. Sam's Club has a couple, both made by the same company, one's just a little newer model. What kind does anyone have and what do you like/dislike about it? Anything I need to know before buying one? TIA! :)

I have one and I like it alot. I don't have as much space as you but I do love the way it keeps everything fresh. I even tested bbq ribs from the grill and froze, they stayed fresh until we ate them. I bought the foodsaver vac 1200 which is a great model. Not sure what Sams carries but I bought mine at Kohl's with canister's, extra bags. I don't think I paid over 125.00 for it. Goodluck :)

I have a FoodSaver we love it , we buy a half a cow and pig and the meats stay fresh in there. We paid 200.00 for it but it really comes in hand.

Hi Cat !
yes , we have the rival brand and we love it !O.k.
don`t laugh ,we bought it for when we slaughter our meat chickens every fall.
It does the job.
No freezer burn at all.

I have one, too. No freezer burn, freeze for a longer period of time and less freezer space is used.

We also have one.

I have an older model and these are the things I would change about it.

Sometimes you want to seal without a tight vacuum...like resealing the bag of chips or sealing lettuce. You get to choose how much air to suck out on my moms model.

My moms also has the slider cutter built in. That is a really nice feature. Mine does not.

Other than that, I still use mine and it is useful.

Thanx, everyone. We're leaning toward the Foodsaver 1200 (at Sam's). It doesn't have the slid cutter built in, but Wal-Mart has that seperate for $10 (it also stores the roll of plastic). Stori, I checked Kohl's website and they didn't have the 1200. They do have the 800 for $129.99 and it does have the cutter/storage built in. It doesn't have the one touch operation, though. It's a press and hold. I've read some reviews that say if you've had a press and hold and go to a one touch you'll never go back. Oh, the decisions... lol We'll probably get one next weekend. That gives us some time to decide yet. :)

Here is the link for Kohl's. I bought it when the were giving $10 gift cards for every $50 you spend so I had a total of 3 gift cards to use on bags and the bag cutter you spoke of at Walmart. HTH's :)

Thanx, Stori. I'll have to watch Kohl's for sales. :)
