Where did this saying originate?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Where did this saying originate?

"Won't you come into my parlor?", said the spider to the fly.

I think it's from a poem, but a Google search didn't help. My mother used to say it all the time and now I find myself saying it to my kids. I'd love to know where it's from!

It is from a Poem

The Spider and the Fly poem by Mary Howitt

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :)

I was searching with the wrong words. Thank you for the link. I never read the whole poem so I didn't realize what I was missing. :)

Actually I typed in "said the spider to the fly" and it gave me a direct hit. When I typed in the "won't you...." it took me to sites that only quoted that sentence... Anyway, I love GOOGLE...

No problem by the way.

Sunny, we have this in book form, and it's one of my kids favorites! Go to Amazon...I am sure you will find the book there. :)

Thanks Melanie! Amazon does have it and I will be adding the book to our collection very soon. :)
