I made my husband give up his car :( (this is long, I'm sorry)

On Saturday, my hubby took our daughter w/him to go "look" at some cars. He called me up a couple of hours later and said that there was a 2002 Mustang Gt that they could get us into for roughly the same price that we're paying for our other car, I was strongly against it for many reasons (one of them being that it's going to be our primary vehicle), but told him to go for it. He brought it home and I hated it. He drove it around all day Sunday, and I hated it. As he was leaving for work on Monday, all I could think of was he's going to get into an accident in that stupid car! So last night we decided (I was more adamant than he) to get a car that's more practical for the family. One the kids could actually get in and out of with no problems, one that gives them leg room in the back seat. One that has a good sized trunk (we drive my grandma around occasionaly and she uses a wheel chair that folds up). We spent 5 hours at the car lot and ended up with the same car (2 yrs. difference) we had before he got the Mustang. Not that there's anything wrong w/it (2004 Pontiac Grand Am). It is a more "practical" car, it's just that for the same price he could have had a Mustang! We only plan on keeping it for a year (we're trying to rebuild our credit) but I feel like crap!!!

Well i wish I could get my dh to give up his car! He likes to buy OLD cars and restore them and i hate it too. always having to worry about it breaking down in the meantime! Right now we have an 87 Jeep grand wagoneer and it does have enough space for the kids but it needs alot of work. I had to leave MY car behind when we moved to England and it was a nice new minivan! Men and cars are pains, LOL. Practical is better especially when you have kids. Your choice of car is very important for the whole family to be comfortable and safe!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You did the right thing.:)

Why do you feel bad? You needed the Grand Am because it made more sense for your family. We all have to make sacrifices, and the Grand Ams are nice. :) I hope you don't mind, I'm going to put in my 2 cents from my experiences selling cars, since you mentioned trying to build your credit. Trading in after 1 year is going to leave you in a negative equity position, (upside down) because you are paying primarily interest charges the first year. To build credit refinancing the vehicle you have in a year or 18 months is usually a better option. Just a suggestion! :)

Thanks for the tip :)

A mustang really isn't a family car. You did what you had to do.

I love my Taurus, though!
