Anyone Ever Ordered Furniture From Far Away/Online/Phone??
Has anyone ever ordered quality furniture from the Carolinas? I'm looking at two stores down there that I've found thru the internet and the whole transaction would take place over the phone. The prices are a good $400 less than my local store, but I realize if something arrives damaged I'm going to face difficulties getting it taken care of and probably going to deal with extra shipping and such. Just wondered if anyone had done this and how it went. TIA!
I have never done it, but my BIL has. He actually took a trip there and purchased it all though...but it still had to be ordered and sent to him at his home! He was pleased with everything and had no problems! I have heard that it is so much cheaper from alot of people!!
and on the other side of the coin...my aunt ordered a bedroom set and it must have been shipped and reshipped 10 times before they got it right, wrong kind of wood, then the bed was the right wood but the dresser wasn't, then it was the right wood, stained the wrong color, then it was the right everything but had a big scratch, etc. etc. etc.
Yikes Colette, that is the other side of the coin isn't it!! What a pain that would be! She didn't have to pay for any of the shipping did she? Even if she didn't, just the aggrivation of that mess!!! If you do order it, I would make sure to get all the specifics of who does what in the event something is wrong spelled out in the beginning just to protect yourself in case you go through something like Colette's aunt did!!
You have to accept shipment so look it over completely for damage before signing for it. We have ordered funiture before and had no problems. Good luck! Yvonne
My SIL has and she has never had a problem. I like to see what I'm ordering and I like to talk to the sales person one on one. I also like to be able to talk to someone in person if there is a problem with my order, so I don't think I could order large furniture items online. Good luck and let us know how it turns out if you do order online.
YES~ We order from North Carolina Furniture. We order Hooker brand thru them and it is a little cheaper for us. It took about 10 weeks to get my dh office furniture. However, it was worth the wait imo. It's gorgeous. We ordered our dining room furniture the 1st week of January. They said it should arrive by April. However, I called this week and now they are saying it will be the end of April. I am trying not to whine. LOL They were very nice and offered me a 'loaner' set of furniture from their store but I didnt bother with it. Our formal dining room has been an extra playroom for 3 yrs now! LOL It is cleaned out now and I dont mind it sitting empty for a few extra weeks.
My best friend did and she was VERY pleased! I do remember that she had to pay 1/2 when she ordered and the other 1/2 when they delivered. You can find any furniture at your local store and then look online and find the exact piece in North Carolina where something like 90% of all furniture is manufactured and get it for really cheap. I say go for it!!
I would like to add that we had seen each of the pieces we ordered at local stores--we looked online for the item numbers, and then we just called the North Carolina store and had them price it and order it. So we did see it before we ordered it.

As far as returning stuff. We ordered from a local furniture store (STAR) and had the same issue, table was wrong color, then scratched, etc...it toook 4 times for them to get it right. So it can happen anywhere...i say go for it!
We looked into a couple of places in the Carolinas for furniture online. We were looking for *light* woods and finishes and they are nowhere to be found in local furniture stores. We had pretty much the same concerns everyone's posted above, and we ended up getting our furniture from a local unfinished furniture place. It's high quality wood, and in most pieces you can choose your wood and you have the choice of it being delivered completely unfinished, or you can pay a fee per piece to have it finished, which is what we did. I wonder if we would have come out better to order online...............
Okay, I did it. I ordered today from North Carolina Furniture (which, logically, is located in Florida ) I hope it goes well!! I'm saving four hundred dollars but I'm also paying TWO HUNDRED in shipping. The shipping makes me sick when I think of it, so I try not to! I hope it comes in early, I got the standard eight weeks quote. Thanks to everyone for their help!
Please post when your furniture arrives. I am really interested in hearing how this works out!
BUMP
