DH and I were talking last night about where to go this year for vacation. We are saving for a big trip next year, so this summer's get away has to be within driving distance and will only be for a long weekend. He's always wanted to visit Plymouth Rock, so I've been looking online at hotels in Plymouth and other attractions of interest. I thought I'd post here in hopes that anyone who's been there or lives nearby could tell me a little about it. Thanks!
I live in Ma, but I've never gone to the plantation or to see the rock. I've been to a medieval faire near it though. It's a nice area.
I'm also from MA! IMO Plymouth Rock itself is a tad boring (it really is just a clump of rock and nothing else). But, Plymouth Plantation can be fun! If I had my choice, I would do as Colette suggested and wait until King Richard's Faire is there. This way, you can do both! King Richard's Faire is a blast!
Here is the link for King Richard's. It's SO much fun both with and without kids. I don't know if it's to late in the season for you though since you said you wanted to go in the summer. http://www.kingrichardsfaire.net/
Angela, I think my Dh likes boring! LOL He's commented to me that he needs a vacation after the vacation because I keep him running. Maybe that's why he suggested a rock? I checked out the faire site, but it doesn't start until September and that is too late for us. Because of DH's work, he can only get time off in July or August. What other sights are there that are within a short drive (an hour)? I thought about seeing Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod. Is that doable?
It will be packed at the cape during that time. If you are even considering staying there you better book it now. Do you live near the ocean now? If you don't, then the beach itself is a wonderfully, relaxing time.
I have been to Plymouth a few times, I used to spend summers on Buzzards Bay. It really is an amazing place if you are into history or your lineage goes back to the Mayflower. I haven't been back in years, but the main things are Plymouth Plantation, the Rock, and The Mayflower II. Here's a site for Plymouth tourism... HTH http://www.visit-plymouth.com/index.asp
Thanks for the site. We are about an hour's drive from the ocean, so I was thinking more along the lines of just sight-seeing rather than spending anytime on the beach. I wouldn't mind seeing the lighthouses.
What about some light houses... Lighthouses Cape Cod
What about a boat tour. Go out and see the whales and the other wild life up close.. Dolphin Fleet

Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum
My dad was stationed in North Truro Ma. For three years. We lived on an a base just down from the Highland Light (lighthouse) One of my best friends dad was the man that ran the light house. If you have the time you should walk through P Town (Provincetown) They have a lot of little gift type shops. And as far as the ROCK. it is just that a ROCK.. I say go see it but don't plan for it to take much time..
Sunny, If your husband likes boring, then a walk though Provincetown with definitely be a change for him!!!! It's not boring!!! It's a VERY COLORFUL PLACE!!! It's the San Francisco of Cape Cod! VERY heavy gay population! It's a great place to spend the day! Bobbie is right. The shops are fantastic! I love spending time down there... though, I must say, I have a hard time getting my husband to take me. It's more of a girl's day for me! Have fun!!!
Thanks for the links and advice. I need to sit down with my DH and figure out what will be a must-see and where exactly we want to stay. I'll let you know!
