On boy have I BTDT, I had pink on a beige rug. What I did was let it dry for a few hours then it scraped right off the rug with my finger nails, then I just vacuumed and it was all gone.

Get as much up as you can with your nails, then take the glob of putty and smush it back onto the remaining putty and quickly pull it back up and hopefully some putty will stick to it and more will come up. Then with the smallest scissors you have (preferably manicure scissors) snip off the tip tops of the rug fibers. AND WHERE DID YOU FIND PURPLE SILLY PUTTY??? I've been looking for YEARS for it!!! The Easter Bunny is always supposed to bring it, and he always has to bring pink.

I got it at Walmart a few months ago. It's purple, but the heat of your hand makes it go pink after a few minutes. I tried scraping it up as much as I could but what is left is a flat purple spot.

Oh,and it is a stupid berber rug so I can't cut at it. It's all small tight flat loops(I hate berber).

From Crayola.com (Helpful Information Link):

Materials:

  • Dull knife or metal spoon
  • WD-40® (car part lubricant)
  • Liquid dishwashing detergent
  • Cotton balls
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Soft cloth or sponge

Procedure:
Scrape off excess Silly Putty or clay with a dull-edge knife or metal spoon. Spray with WD-40 and let stand a few minutes. Scrape excess Silly Putty or clay with dull-edge knife or metal spoon. Respray with WD-40 and wipe off stain with cotton balls. If any stain remains, saturate a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol, blot the stain and rinse. Wipe any remaining residue or remaining stain with a damp sponge or cloth moistened with liquid dishwashing detergent.

The suggestions for removing stains have been compiled as a service to our consumers. We are unable to guarantee or be responsible for the results obtained by these procedures. You may also wish to consult your local cleaner for further recommendations.

Before attempting the stain removal method, test each procedure on an inconspicuous area of the material or surface to be cleaned. Please be advised these stain removal methods involve hazardous products and are intended only for adult use. Binney & Smith does not recommend children attempt these procedures.

In many procedures, specific brands of products are recommended. These are brands that performed most effectively in our laboratory. Competitive brand products may work equally well.

BDTD, Let the silly putty dry, Sprinkle dry oxiclean, add hot water and scrub it will start to loosen up and roll out of the carpet. My kids had it all over the carpet at one of our apartments last year. The Oxi clean will lift the stain too!
