More on the toe saga...
I took Courtney back and had her stitches removed yesterday morning, looked great! Yippee! Dr. says it looks great, she can go back to P.E. whenever she felt comfortable. No further instructions other than keep it clean and keep putting bacitracin on it. She gets home from school and it is bleeding, I look at it and it has started to come apart. I call the Dr. office, the nurse says, "She didn't put any Steri strips on it?" "No." I say. I had to take her back to the office, which is not the regular office we go to, it's further away. Dr. comes in and tells Courtney, "Wow, you're gonna have to stay off of this." Proceeds to make it like it's her idea and says, "Tell you what, let's put some steri strips on that" Long story short, it now has the strips on it and she has to go back to wearing the slipper at school until it closes completely. All of this could have been avoided had the Dr. done what she was supposed to do yesterday morning. I really like this Dr's office, I don't know whether to make a complaint or just make it a point to never see this Dr. again. Another question, since I was so mad, I didn't ask... can she get these strips wet? Will they fall off on their own? I have never had any experience with them.
I do know about steri strips..LOL. Avoid getting them wet, it takes about a week for a wound to heal with them. They will start peeling up at the edges, trim them short. When there is not much else left of them you can soak them to remove them! Good luck!
I had them when I had a c-section and my dr. said it was ok to get them wet. I had to go back to the dr. to have them taken off.
When I had my staples removed after my gallbladder surgery, they applied these strips. They said I could bath as normal. They would eventually fall off. So I would say she could get them wet but I wouldnt recommend her actually soaking them in the tub as they may help them come off sooner then needed to.
I had steri-strips a couple of weeks ago when I had neck surgery. I could not get them wet for the first 4 days. After that I could, but was told to be careful about. Like, no soaking them with water, but if they get a bit wet it's not a big deal. I wore them for a total of 9 days. By then they were starting to peel at the edges.
I had steri-strips after the staples were removed with my first C-section and steri-strips right away with the second c-section. Both times I showered with them. No soaking of course, but just wet in the course of a shower should be okay.
I've had steri strips after 5 different surgeries, 4 of them with staples first. I could get them wet.
Sarah, who's the Dr? So I know who to avoid.
I had them too after a C and I could get them wet. And they curled up and I trimed them with scissors until they were all the way off..
It is a practice affiliated with CHKD Bea. I love all of the Dr.s, I even liked this one the last time we saw her for an ear infection. Her toe looks so much better already. The strips are already lifting off but I am just keeping a fairly tight bandaid around it and that seems to be working. We should be good to go by the weekend. Now dd #2 is home sick from school with a tummy thing.....
