Ooooh!! So mad!!!
I am so mad at Walmart! I bought a Littlest Pet Shop toy, and decided to return it for another, cooler one. I didn't have my receipt, so I understand they have to give me the lowest price from the past 30 days. They gave me $16 and come change on a $24 toy. Well, the toy is on CLEARANCE now, and it's still only down to $17, I *know* I haven't seen it cheaper in the past month. Ok, they ripped me off, but I didn't have a receipt so whatever, it's my fault. So, I also bought a Cabbage Patch Kid LAST WEEK, and paid almost $27. Tonight, I see it on clearance for $17, but I don't have my receipt anymore (I looked everywhere), so I'm out $10 on that, too. I am not throwing another receipt away until at least 30 days have passed from now on!!!!
I understand you are mad at walmart for this because you got the items from there but i think almost every retail store does this? It still stinks though...here's a funny for you all...i went out on black friday to get my husband a george foreman grill well the other day i saw it for $10 cheaper than i paid for it and then yesterday i saw it on clearance for the same price i paid for it lol.. = )
Sorry Crystal - every store does this. :-( I learned the hard way to save ALL receipts until you are absolutely positive you don't need them anymore. Put them in a drawer somewhere, and go through them once a month or so. :-(
Sorry Crystal - that's furstrating! I have a file of receipts for usually the last 6mths or more. I clean it out once or twice a year. Christmas receipts have a separate envelope all their own! LOL
Crys, every store I have ever had to return things to with out receipt does this. It is either an exchange of same item or a refund of the last sales amount. Stinks for sure but it is a way for them to try to control loss profit. You can thank the shop lifters for this policy.
I'm boycotting Wal-Mart as are many in my area. The management of our local Wal-Mart went through the store on Saturday, December 22nd and told the employees they could not have any Christmas decorations up, only wintery ones, and they could not wear anything that was related to Christmas such as shirts, hats, earrings, etc. It might offend some people and they didn't want to do that. Well, I find it offensive that they could take our dang money on Christmas gifts and once the holiday was almost here, they decide they are going to be politically correct. Good luck dealing with them.
Most stores do this. Target even posts that they will only give you the sale price---EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE A RECEIPT SHOWING YOU PAID MORE! I do not understand how they can get away with it, but they do. I start shopping for next Christmas now. There are great deals to be had. I did see toys I paid more for this past Christmas. I also saw ones that I paid less for. Hopefully, they even each other out. I keep a leather box on my desk. I put all my receipts in it. I clean it out twice a year. This way I know exactly where to look for a receipt. Sorry you had to lose some money on your returns!
Yvonne, Target has a sign saying you get sale price regardless of receipts?? I don't understand that one!
Yes--here is the gist of it "We will accept holiday and seasonal items within 90 days of purchase if you have the original receipt or gift receipt. If the items are on clearance at the time of return, they will be refunded at the current clearance price. This pertains only to holiday items or items associated with a particular season or time of the year. Target, like nearly all retailers, reduces the price of holiday themed or seasonal merchandise by at least 50 percent the day following the holiday or at the end of a particular season. Because we are trying clear out the remaining inventory and the items are on clearance, we are unable to sell them at full price. This is why we are unable to offer a refund for the full purchase price of the item."
That Target policy only applies to seasonal merchandise. I know all stores have different policies for different kinds of merchandise (i.e. computers and electronics are usually only an exchange for a similar product or you are charged a restocking fee.) I personally can't stand WalMart because EVERY time I have gone in there looking for something specific, they don't have it. I recently had the same experience at Walgreens and have now decided to boycott all stores that have "wal" in its name!
Yes--but seasonal can be tricky. I bought a sweater (nothing Christmasy about it). They did not have another one (I needed a different size). It had gone down in price and they used that policy to refund me less $ than I paid. I had my receipt with me and it was only a few days after I purchased it. I do not like that policy (especially if you have your receipt). I hate Walmart even more. I avoid that store like the plague.
It doesn't make sense to get less than what you paid if you have a receipt. We don't have a Target or Walgreens. We have just Walmart. I hate them passionately, I never leave there happy. Between people having family reunions in every other aisle or people blocking the freezers because they're on their cell phones about what kind of ice cream to get to not having what I want when they are the biggest store ever- ugh! Their customer service is a joke. They own our mall and it wasn't much before and now it's really not anything to speak of. I wish I had the money to go down the road about 45 minutes where there are more places to choose from or shop exclusively at the more expensive market. Ok, rant over .
Yes most do do this, Targets in my area, you can not get a refund anymore with out a receipt, at one point you could not do anything. Now they allow for the lowest sale price to go t the same department and get somethign for that amount you can add to the cost is needed. I'm a saint at keeping my recepits, learned the hard way, threw away a few money order stubs and had to pay over again.
The one thing I do like about Target is that if you buy something and it goes on sale (not clearance) within two weeks, all you have to do is present your receipt, they scan it, and give you the difference. This more than makes up for any of the other holiday hassles - during the holiday season you shop at your own risk.
