Digital cameras

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: Digital cameras
By Luv2fly on Monday, February 2, 2004 - 01:09 pm:

Hi everyone! I have been super busy lately so I have not been around (we have a 3rd child this year, a 17yoa German exchange student!).

I wanted to know if anyone has a digital camera with very fast shutter speed. I am not sure if that is the technical term or not. You know when you go to push the button but then the kids turn their heads before the camera takes the picture?? UGH So frustrating. Does anyone have a camera they would recommend? Or know a good site where they might compare the shutter speed on different cameras?

TIA!
Laura

I don't know too much about shutter speed but I do know that most cameras have a "burst 3" feature which allows you to take 3 pictures with one click. If you are looking for the perfect shot, using that feature allows you to delete the bad pictures and keep the good ones. Just a thought!

I actually looked for this in a camera. What you are looking for is not so much shutter speed, but recording feed too! I have a sony 2.0 MP that I love. Great quality, not too pricy, prints look good etc and takes fast and often!

The term you are thinking of is called "shutter lag".

In general, more expensive cameras have faster electronics which reduces shutter lag.

Here is an excellent digital camera review site with reviews and discussions about various cameras:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/MFR1.HTM

If you click on the "Full Information" link you will get a list of all cameras of a particular brand.

Then click on "Specs" for each camera and scroll down to the red sections called "Performance".
This lists the "lag" for that camera.

For example, here is the specs for my camera, the Sony F717 5 megapixel:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/CAMDB/compare_results.php?sections%5B%5D=369

Which is 0.6 sec for full auto focus.
