Looking for recipe for lil' smokies
in the crock pot. I think I've seen it here. It's just lil' smokies and bbq sauce, I think. TIA
I have heared of people using grape jelly and BBQ sauce...but I don't like them either way...hope that helps
Lil Smokies and BBQ sauce is what my SIL uses at Christmas time. Sweet Baby Ray's original is the BBQ sauce she uses. Yum!
We are doing this for the super bowl tomorrow Lil' Smokies and BBQ sauce, we also like to add a touch of vinegar. Oh so good!
I put them in the crockpot with one jar of grape jelly and one jar of ketchup. It sounds gross but it gives them a great flavor. I get tired of BBQ sauce on everything DH likes to eat!
Thanx, all. I got bbq sauce today so I'll probably just do that. That is if we don't get snowed in. They're calling for 3-5 inches. Doesn't sound like much, but the roads ice over and the wind blows drifts everywhere. We'll see what things look like in the morning.
Question: Do you cook the lil' smokies first, or just put them in the crock with the sauce and let them simmer? If the latter, how long do they simmer before serving? Thanx again! Oh, just a few flurries last night. So off to church we go!
I would think they could just simmer in the BBQ sauce. They are fully cooked aren't they? I think they just need to warm up.
Maybe too late....I let them simmer in the sauce for a couple of hours just to heat them up.
Too late here too, but the smokies are already cooked. We just stick them in the crock pot for the day on low.
*with the sauce
Thanx, everyone. I ended up putting 4 packages of lil' smokies in the crock with two jars of bbq sauce. It took about an hour for them to get hot and two hours later they were all gone! This was at our church's superbowl party and there were probably only about 65 people there, 1/3 of them under 12yo. We had a blast though. Thanx again! They were a hit!
Glad they worked out for you!
For future reference...Here's a recipe I use, that is good with the lil' smokies. Ingredients: 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup ketchup 1/4 cup prepared horseradish 2 pounds kielbasa sausage, sliced thin Directions: In a slow cooker combine the sugar, ketchup and horseradish. Add the sausage, and mix well. Cook on High until it starts to boil. Reduce heat to Low, and cook until sauce thickens, about 45 minutes to 1 hour. (You can make on the stove top too.)
