Girl scout cookies
I know this is the time of year for them. So which ones are your favorites? And , do you buy them every year. My favorites are Thin mints YUM!. We only buy 2 boxes each year, and only buy from a friends daughter. Its so tempting to buy more when we see the tables set up outside Walmart..But, they are so addicting and Ive been pretty good about keeping to my 2 boxes each year.
I like the chocolate ones, the best, I usally will buy about 3 boxes, but when dd's were in girl guides, we would buy alot more, to easy to get them, as they were right their in front of you, mmmmmmmmmm.
Thin Mints, Do-si-dos, and Tagalongs 2-3 boxes??????? Since my daughter is a scout, we usually get about 13! Gets her numbers up higher. I still need to add my order. She was 111 the last I counted! Do-si-dos - oatmeal sandwich cookie with peanut butter in it. Tagalongs - cookie wafer, peanut butter on top, then dipped in chocolate!
Is it that time of year again???? Nobody has come by our house yet. We usually buy 2 boxes from each girl scout that comes to our house. How much are they a box this year? I can't wait until dd is old enough to start girl scouts. What is the first step/age. I was a brownie and loved it. I'm not sure why I stopped going. We love the thin-mints, the Do-si-dos and the carmel, choc. coconut ones (carmel-de-lites when I was a brownie). Yummy!
Around here, 1st grade is when we start selling. My dd need to turn her orders in tomorrow. We did pretty good this year. We sold 256 boxes!!
Holy Moly, it's all I can do to sell the 48 we have to sell!! The mints don't go over as well, and that's the only choice in the fall. We just got the order sheets for the spring order, and they're the choc/vanilla kind. I like it this way better, because we order first, and only order what we need. We tend to eat way more in the fall, because we keep all of the leftovers. We don't sell them outside stores or anything. We just sell to family and friends. They cost $4/box, and the girls start selling them as Sparks. (4 and 5 year olds) They sell them all the way through. I have 4 in guiding, so they're all doing their best to take orders.
It is interesting to see how things are done so different depending on where you are. The first grade for scouts is K and they are called Daisy's. The are not allowed to sell. In 1st grade you become a Brownie and that is when the selling begins. In the fall we sells nuts/candy and magazine subscriptions. Then this time of year, cookies. We have 8 kinds to choose from and they are 3.00 a box.
I am totalyl excited about havinga daughter that can do this stuff one day. Selling cookies nad all fo that wil lbe so cool. Timmy is going to join cub scouts next yr I do believe. I want them to be involved in as much as possible and we will with them. The more they do the less time they have to get in trouble as they are older!!
I love thin mints. But I don't know any girl scouts!! I count on seeing the girls down at the grocery store and I always buy a couple of boxes from them.
We don't have girl scouts in our area. Just boy scouts, and they don't sell cookies. What is the money used for?
I ama girl scout and boy scout leader. In the US cookes sales are spring only. Each council decides on the price. Ours is 3 dollars. We sold 200 this year. the fall fund raiser is either the nuts or calendars depending on your area. Boy scouts start in 1st grade as tiger scouts. What does the money go for? Well first off out of the 3 dollars in my council (this is different for each one). 42 cents per box goes to the troop. We will use our funds to help pay for camps, field trips etc. My girls did not sell very many at all, so we won't be doing much. The rest of the money gets split up between the service unit, that is kind of like our "school board", they run several troops in the area. We have monthly meetings etc. The rest goes to council which is the whole area that covers many service units. The money goes to fund training for leaders, camp improvements, awards for girls, background checks, etc.
Our troops do different fund raisers throughout the year, and every unit is differernt. My kids do Regal, which is a catalogue to order many different items. It's an ongoing thing all year. The cookie sales are the biggest fundraiser. They also fund the units by paying yearly dues, which is usually about $40/child. Ours are Sparks 4-5, Brownies 6-7, Guides 8-11, Pathfinders and Rangers, not sure of ages. The boys are Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and then not sure if there's anything after that.
My city in WI just got done selling Girl Scout cookies. Today was the last day.
I ordered a box each of the thin mints, tagalongs and do si dos from a friend. My favorties are tagalongs and thin mints, i thought i would be different and buy do si dos this year too. My dh didn't know i ordered some already and while i was out yesterday he bought 2 boxes of thin mints from a little girl in the neighbor hood. o well, i guess we will freeze some!
I ordered some today. I got a box of of thin mints, carmel de lites, tagalongs and the new one with stawberry jelly or something like that in it.
