Paint Color Samples Site needed

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Paint Color Samples Site needed
By Annie2 on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 08:45 pm:

Does anyone have one? I want to paint my kitchen tomorrow. It is now red and I want to tone it down to a soft sea green moss or something like similar.
Thanks!

I'll try this again:()

Annie,

There are a couple of websites that have virtual paint samples, I really like them. However, my computer died and I got a new one and haven't messed with the old one yet. Getting off subject.

If you have any troubles with this website just post, and I'll help you.:)

On the right hand side under the blue box is the gray box where you can look at the virtual paint samples, if I find anymore I'll post for you.

BTW, it shows different rooms and when you mess around with it the different paint chart, good luck.

Annie2, if you're going to paint over red, you might want to use something like Kilz, tinted in the color you plan to use, as a base coat. Red is hard to paint over!

Thanks everyone. These sites are wonderful. It's so hard to chose a color.
Karen, you are the third person to recommend Kilz to me. I will definitely use it. I hate painting, so much, it kills me to have to paint the room twice, though!
In the spring I based it, then painted it red, then repainted it a different shade of red. Unfortunately the color is not growing on me.
Now I am looking for a green color. Not too bright and not too dark! LOL

We did our living room kennebunkport green. If you go to the Benjamin Moore site, and go to the paint a room area, you can type the paint color in and see how it looks on the wall.

we bought a couple of different quarts once we narrowed it down and painted part of the walls in each color to see which one we liked the best.

Colette, I love that color. That might be exactly what I am after. Do you think it would look appealing in a kitchen?
Here are several others, from that site, I was considering:
everglades, palm trees, winchester sage, woodland Hills green and Buckingham Gardens.

There was another one I really liked, I think it was called Paris Green. It was very similar to the kennebunkport but a little brighter.

It depends on what kind of mood you want for your kitchen. It's a very relaxing color. I think the paris green would be a little more cheerful.

get chips of the colors you want and tape them to the walls - match them to your countertops and cabinets and floor to see which goes best, narrow it down, buy a couple of quarts of your two or three favorites and paint a sample part of your wall.

Annie2, if you do decide to use the Kilz, make sure you get the right one - they make one for dark colors, and they also make an oil based. Talk to the person you buy your paint from and make sure they understand you are painting over red, so you'll know which Kilz to get.

I painted my bedroom purple mauve recently. I was painting over off-white walls. I primed them with Kilz tinted the same color, and then painted them. The trouble with colors other than lighter ones, is you usually have to paint twice (at least) to get an even coat, or you have trouble painting over them when changing colors.

Behr paint is my favorite! And GREEN is my favorite color! Have fun! :)
