Virus WARNING
If you get an email from me DO NOT open any attachments. I made the mistake of doing just that this morning BEFORE I updated my virus scan HUGE mistake. The virus is W32/Bagle@MM The email I got came from someone who knows computers that I trust, I scanned it BEFORE I opened it but silly me an hour before my automatic update ran Lesson learned - ALWAYS update before you scan an attachment
My computer was on its last legs anyway, and I believe a friend of mine accidently sent me an email with a virus. My computer completely shut down and I can't do a thing with it. Dh was supposed to get a new one for college anyway and it coincided with gateway (I didn't know that until I called them). So guess what we just got, a gateway! I hope it works ok. What antivirus programs do you use. I am really scared now . Any suggestions?
Here is a suggestion I used free yahoo email and hotmail I have the same virus scan inhere from day one and have my computer up and going for over 4 years never had a virus or anything like that my isp I use for Ebay and thats it and far as friends and family they send me email at yahoo or hotmail if that would be any help to you. Thank You.
Marg the best advice I can give you is to have virus protection software and keep it updated. The ONLY reason this happened to me was I scanned the attachment and opened it before I updated my virus files for the day. If I had updated the virus scan FIRST this never would have happened.
Donna, I have yahoo and comcast. What virus scan do you use?
I have McAfee virus scan it is on all the time but I don't use the isp email only for ebay thats it.
Marg is comcast a regular isp provider?
Comcast is a cable ISP. Thanks for the reminder, Claire. I'm going to do a live update now!
I use AVG anti-virus. It is scheduled to do a daily update and run a complete virus scan in the middle of the night. AVG Website We have never been infected with a virus while using this anti-virus program. We have three computers networked together and actually had to buy a site license to get this one! LOL! It's a 2-year term and was $130. We thought it used fewer system resources than Norton's did and updates easily.
I have that Norton Antivirus free for 90 days. So I will try it for now. I just set it up hopefully it will work ok.
Norton has caught at least 4 viruses that came in my email before they did any harm. It is one of the highest rated anti-virus programs. One reason I like it is that it is cheap and easy to renew annually. I keep it set for automatic update, set to scan incoming email, and to run a full scan once a week. I wouldn't be without it.
We have Norton as well, with automatic scans and live updates. All incoming and outgoing e-mail is scanned. A firewall is also imperative.
