Children's vitamins

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Children's vitamins

I was wondering if any of you moms give vitamins to your children, my dd are 2 & 3. They get sick constanly. In Oct, & Dec. they got sick, coughing, sneezing etc. And now for the last 3 days they've been sick, took them to the Dr's office they got Ibuprofen, and Zithromax. I was thinking of putting them on vitamins but I'm not too familiar with them.If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it, TIA

My kids have prescription vitamins which include flouride. They've been on prescription vitamins since about 6 months old. At one point, I decided just to buy over the counter vitamins (flintstones chewables), but my DR recommended keeping with the flouride vitamins.

My kids also do the prescription flouride/vitamin pills.

It's not unusual for kids to get sick often during winter months, especially toddlers and preschoolers who put things in their mouths and are in close physical contact with peers. It gets better when they get older and have been exposed to more germs, thus building up their immune system.

We are vegetarian , so I use Dr Schiff's vegetarian liquid children's vitamins. They are non metallic tasting and taste great as they are all from vegetables. The iron is derived from beets ! I do also give my 2 year old DS a seperate Fluoride supplement his pediatric dentist suggested. You should check with your local town water board if your drinking water is fluoridated or not. If there is already fluoride in your drinking water then don't give vitamins with fluoride as that will cause mottled teeth due to excessive fluoride. A lot of towns already add fluoride to their drinking water supply. My girlfriend lives just a couple towns over and she has fluoridated water supply so she gives just multivitamins with iron.

Jodie, thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to mention that we have well water and aren't on the public flouridated water system.

I have hardly ever given my children vitamins! We live in the city and have flouridated water.

We got the gummy bear vitamins and the gummy bear vitamin c also at drugstore.com. I put some tissues and I am up to $50 for free shipping.

DS has not been sick for about 2 months now on the vitamin c. Probably just coincidence. I got vitamin c for the car I am I pop it too. i got vitamin c lolly pops too.

We were hit so bad in the beginning of the year with illnesses.

My girls take an over the counter vitamin (when I remember-usually my youngest DD reminds me :)) I started giving my oldest vitamins when she was pretty little because my DH has problems with low iron. The DR. recommended she take a vitamin since she also does not like to each anything with iron like meats or beans. My 2 year old takes My First Flinstones, that are just the right dose for under 3. As far as keeping them from getting sick-my girls have always been pretty healthy-but they stay home with me and when we are out they know the first thing we do when we get home is wash their hands. I don't know if their healthy diet and vitamins really have anything to do with it or not. Hope your DD's are feeling better.

DD 3 and DS 9 both take over the counter vitamins daily. DD takes My First Flintstone ones. DS takes one a day kids. And myself I take Womens one a day. They are all made by the bayer corporation. MY SIL works for bayer and we get hugh discounts on all bayer products, so that makes it nice:)
