Where do you hide your kids' toys?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: Where do you hide your kids' toys?

I hid Connor's in the office and he found a stocking stuffer today!!! Argh. He was very close to finding other things. Guess I better get wrapping, huh? LOL :)

Yeap. I've often kept things, in the trunk of the car! Sounds like he's getting very curious! When I was 13, my sisters and I found some presents and very carefully opened them up. It was its own punishment, though, because it's really hard to fake surprise, when you already know what it is. We never did that again.

We used to have a small room off of our bedroom that we used as a closet. The kids never went in there, so we hid gifts in a huge box with lots of clothes and extra blankets over it.

We traded rooms with my little boy this past year so he'd have the bigger room, so that was not an option this year! We have a small closet in our room that I kept them in, but I wrapped most of them as we bought them. We do have the Santa gifts taped up in a box in our closet.

Our kids are never alone in the house, and they have never been allowed in our closet, so it's nothing different at Christmas, so that's good. Also, they just don't want to know! They also know that I've always said if they find anything before Christmas, I will give it to Toys For Tots or something. And my kids tell on themselves for absolutely everything. The guilt gets them right away! Teehee!

I used to hide mine in the trunk of my dh 1964 fastback mustang, then... he decided to start redoing the mustang and my hiding spot was taken! This year I had to find another spot!

I use to hide the gifts in the totes I use to store the Christmas stuff in. The stuff goes up and the totes sit empty. Kids know the totes are empty, after all they dumped them. The big stuff, that wouldn't fit, I stacked in the bottom of my closet under a sheet.

In our new house, all the main floor bedrooms have cubbies above the closets. The only two people tall enough to reach into the cubbies from a chair are Rob and Dill.

we had the talk with the girls last year, thanks to the kids at school, we had no choice.

This year we have a dryer in the basement we are not using so they have gone in there.

Ours go in the closet in the guest bedroom. The real hard part is shopping for the gifts when you have a child with you!!! Today I had to keep distracting Helen so she would not see what I was sneaking into the cart and hiding under my coat. It was tough!

Ame,

I hear ya! I was doing the same thing, trying to distract my ds at the store. Thankfully, the clerk knew what I was trying to do so she waited for his back to be turned and scanned the kid stuff first.

As far as hiding places, I used to keep things in a coffee table that has a secret compartment, but dh knows that spot now. So it's back to under our bed (which is hidden by a bedskirt) and in the trunk of my car.

LOL at the dryer. That's a good one!

I used to hide Santa ones in our shed and others in a closet. This year no one believes in Santa so it is making it a bit easier one me.
I have some under the tree, some in closet...mostly all wrapped. I told the kids that if they peek on them, only they will be disapointed come Christmas morning. I also know that at their ages, finding the presents and sneeking a peek is half the fun! Until they realize, as Dawn mentioned and I myself found out that knowing the presents before hand doesn't make for such an exciting XMas am.

I just toss them in my closet or in a dresser drawer. My kids never go into my closet, so it isn't a big deal. I guess they could look if they wanted and I wasn't home, but I have had no indication that they did. And ya know lesson learned if they did. I was a peeker, I loved doing it and still have a hard time not doing it. It didn't ruin anything for me, it was just part of the season :)

we did christmas here last night, so my kids either didn't peek or they are great actors and either one is fine with me

When Jeff and Jen were young I hid things:
**in the trunk of my car
**in the attic
**at my office
**in the back of my closet with sheets or towels stacked over/around it

However, when Jules and Jason were young, Jules was an expert when it came to snooping and spying, so one year we went to the mall and had her gifts sealed in big aluminum cans!

Ever since my kids stopped believing in Santa, I started putting them under the tree ahead of time.
It keeps them excited and anticipating what is in the boxes. Especially since, I do not always label them :)
Last year I put colored dots on the bottom of each gift (color coded). It drove everyone nuts that nothing was labeled.
Other years I have used a different paper for each family member (and nothing labeled).
I also rebox things so they in no way resemble the gift.

In the laundry room cabinets, on the top shelves of our closets, in the bathroom over the shower cabinets, in empty totes in the garage, under beds, behind clothes in my drawers. It's a miracle that I've never lost a gift!
