Anyone have or did have frogs??
I'd like to get a tree frog as a pet. Can anyone tell me if its a good idea and if they are high maintenance. I went to buy more trops today and was really interesting in getting a frog. Of course the guy there is not going to tell you anything bad about owning animals, but he was really getting me into it. I like fish cause they do not require much maintenance except for cleaning the tank and feeding. I need something simple and if there are other suggestions I would appreciate it. My son also likes animals, but I just cant afford to get a dog/cat since we are just moving and going to have to adjust to a new house and I'm going back to work part time soon. I would like to wait a while for that, but would still like him to have something besides the trops.
A friend's daughter had a frog she found down by the creek, and kept it as a pet for several months. It was pretty low-maintenance, except that we had to catch flies for it on a daily basis (I say "we" because I got to watch after it while they went on vacation for a week!). I don't know anything about tree frogs, though. How about a hermit crab? Those are quite the rage now, and you can even buy shells painted with sports team names and all sorts of colors. They need larger shells occasionally, as they grow, and eat commercial food you get at the pet store...very low maintenance. Little lizards are also fun (had one in college)--I mean the little chameleon types that are brown and green, and very slender. They eat mealworms (bought at a pet store) and need a small container with some climbing sticks, warmth and a bit of water. They shed every so often, but other than that, they are quiet and don't require much. Good luck finding something!
We have a frog. It is one that stays in the water constantly (don't know its name). We had two. But this frog is very aggressive (we didn't know that). And I caught this frog eating the other frog It is now in its own tank and a very happy, low maintenance frog (we call him frogger). To be honest with you we have never cleaned the tank, we have fish and he is much easier than fish to take care of... Your son would love a frog. He comes to the top when you feed him and likes light on or beside his tank. We are very happy with a frog, but we also have fish, a cat and three dogs.
My vet tech son has a frog and had other frogs as pets. I will ask him when I get home.
We had a frog that we bought at Target. We had to give him away when we moved across the country. He was VERY easy to take care of.
We've had teeny tiny frogs in the past and we have two now = ) . They go into the fish tank just like the fish they are pretty ugly but they keep the kids entertained lol.
