City Water Boiling Question?
When you ladies had new borns if you had normal city water did you boil the water before making bottles or just go right from the tap. We drink our water right from the tap with no issues. We don't do bottled water. I for the life of me cannot remember what we did with Timmy. My mom says we just did straight tap water with the formula but I figured Iw ould ask here.
Hi, when my kids were little, the water came straight from the tap, the only time I would boil the water, is if the city itself recommended it. I did put the nipples in boiling water, and rinsed out the bottles with boiling water but that was it.
DS was breastfed for 6 mos. and then switched to formula. We were on city water at the time and I boiled the water to make formula. I don't know what the current recommendations are but I'd much rather be safe than sorry. DD never took a bottle so it wasn't an issue. When we tried to give her bottles we used pumped breast milk or premixed formula. *If* we had used powdered formula with her we definitely would have boiled the water because we have well water in this house.
I found an article... Question: Is tap water, bottled water, or boiled water best for formula?
I never boiled water unless we had to for ourselves. I never even thought about this.
Tonya i would just guy to Meijer or Wal Mart and get the regular water in the gallons they shouldn't be that expensive and go from that..
I would check with your water department and find out what is in your water. My son moved to New Jersey last year and is now drinking bottled water and using nothing but bottled water for anything that goes in their mouths - not only does the water have a high bacteria count, it also has a high radioactivity count. I remember boiling the water. Nowadays I would probably buy the gallon or 2-1/2 gallon containers of bottled water from whatever store has the cheapest prices. I honestly don't think it is worth the risk, at least for the first couple of months.
With our first, we boiled everything...nipples, water, bottles...all of it. With our second, we boiled nothing. Straight from the tap. With our third, we also boiled nothing. I think it depends a lot on your area and the quality of your drinking water. If we were to have a baby now, we would probably buy bottled water. The town we are in is questioning the safety of our drinking water, but assure us that it is still "OK". We still drink it, but I think I would boil it for an infant.
Never boiled water. We just used it straight from the tap. Although, I didn't use much formula with them when they were new, since I was breastfeeding.
hmmm I don't drink the water here, so I guess I wouldn't feed it to the baby I used a mix of stuff with my dd, I started with RTF and think I went to the concentrate, but used bottled water ( i recall it needing to be spring and not distilled or the other way around). With my second son we did the RTF at first and then tried to switch to powder, it made him bleed in his stools. They were not sure why, but like clockwork. So he had to stay on RTF. With my last I breastfed mostly if I needed to supplement I did RTF. I decided that it was just worth it. I think I did keep a can of powder around just to have some to pack. For a bit I used those little bottles that you just screwed a nipple on. On the boiling status. I am a nut, I boiled everything, just part of my nightly routine. I did this until they started to move (crawl or whatever).
My son was brestfed until 6 months and when he started Formula I used bottled water...that's all we drink. I'm sure our water is fine and I'm sure it is safe to drink I just felt better giving him Bottled and I think it tast better. I will do the same with this little one that is on the way.
believe it or not,not only did we boil the water for formula,we even BOILED THE DIAPERS !!!!!at least my sisters did.also, keep in mind that they were cloth diapers.we did laundry in a maytag wringer washer,so mama said to boil the diapers to sterilize them.i know ya'll are thinking i must be as old as dirt, but automatic washers had been around for a long time already but mama wouldn't give up her ole' maytag wringer washer!but when i had my first baby in 1971,i used them "new fangled washers"!! mama just thought i was lazy.she really thought i was something when i started using 'THROW-AWAY" diapers.she said it was a waste of money.i thought it was worth every penny !!!!
My babies only used "throw-away" diapers. I certainly felt they were worth every penny, too!
