Ok, I have to laugh at what is on my brother's "wish list"!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: Ok, I have to laugh at what is on my brother's "wish list"!!!

This is obscene to me...although he's a gun fanatic, so don't freak out. And, him and his wife don't have any kids. He's the sweetest, most gentle guy in the world but, I'm laughing my butt off!! (He's really smart too and learns everything he knows just by reading books on his own.)

Aaaahhh...life before kids...I can't wait until they have kids and see what his post-child "wish list" is!

Going anon since he works for a government agency and has a top secret clearance...would you just lose control if your brother asked for these things for Christmas???
I ended up buying him a gift certificate from Amazon.com and having it emailed to him since he loves books so much.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 01:25 pm:

Well, he has a pretty huge/pricey gift list.. Wonder what he will be getting you???

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 01:29 pm:

I would take it that he is either joking or trying to push your buttons. Either way, I think your response was the right one.

By Kate on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 01:30 pm:

Uhhhh....it's not WHAT is on his list that gets me, it's the AMOUNT of things on his list.... I didn't know adults made lists and gave them out...that's new for me.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 02:05 pm:

Wow. smileyshockedeyes

Kate, my parents and relatives always ask for a wish list. Although my items are usually practical and very reasonably priced, I try to come up with a lot of ideas to make shopping easy for them.

By Anonymous on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 04:44 pm:

Ginny, it's not a joke and he is not trying to push any buttons. He's just the type of guy who has so many projects going on and he wants to learn about everything, anything. I had NO IDEA he was into "Bees"??? I was really laughing at that one.

We make lists in our family because we're practical...or so I used to think. We told our family that we didn't need anything and it's totally true. My brother doesn't really "need" any of this, but I think he might realize this one day??? He makes a 6 figure salary, you'd think he'd just say he doesn't need anything and then we surprise him with handmade things, but again, he doesn't like to "waste money" either.

We're just total opposites.

By Anonymous on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 04:52 pm:

Oh, and Bobbie, he does give a lot too. If any of our family *ever* needed any money, he'd dish out a few hundreds out of his wallet within seconds. We've never accepted money from him, but he's helped many family members get off drugs, etc.

He's given jobs to women who are in abusive situations so they can get back on their feet too. (He hires them to walk his dog and then overpays.)
Like I said, he's as sweet as pie and will give like none other. He gave this list to his wife and then she sent it to us...I wonder what they are going to give each other???

The gas mask cracked me up the most, I think. Can you imagine being so rich that you just start "making up" hobbies like that?

Wasn't there a billionaire who built his own ISLAND??? I think my brother would do something crazy like that.

Millionaires want to be billionaires and billionaires want to be God...so when does it stop??? It's crazy...

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 06:58 pm:

My SILs want lists for the kids and us. I like getting ideas from them, too. They want everyone to be happy.

Rebel XT is a pricey camera, though! LOL! My requests are a lot more practical!

By Imamommyx4 on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 08:15 pm:

It sounds like something my dh would ask for. He did buy a gas mask in 1999 when the world was supposed to self-destruct on Y2K. My dh just bought not one but two 2 1/2 ton 10 wheel base military trucks on a military liquidation auction. Why, you ask. I don't know. But he thinks they are cool and is having a ball in the backyard (yes my backyard) cleaning and sanding and painting the silly things. He also is very intelligent, has a college degree, but self-teaches himself just about anything. You bro sounds like my dh. Sweet, salt of the earth, helpful and giving to everybody, but a little goofy. He calls them toys.

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 09:02 pm:

Anon, your brother sounds like a great guy with some off the wall hobbies LOL A gas mask, where do you even GET one of those LOL.
Yeah, i'd just get him books or a gift certificate too.

We do make lists in our family. We pick names for gift giving because none of us are about to buy for each of the 4 siblings, in laws, and kids. So we pick names and then make a list for who is buying for us since we do want to buy for each other but have no clue what to get the people since most of them will just go buy what they want at the store.

By Anonymous on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 10:09 pm:

LOL, glad he's not the only crazy one!

And, did I mention he made an xcel spreadsheet with links to websites where we could just "click and buy"??? LOL

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 11:21 pm:

A spread sheet. LOL

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 11:56 pm:

Interesting list, but I think he sounds like an interesting guy! LOL

We make lists in our family - EVERYONE does. We also pick names for siblings, their spouses, and kids because there are too many of us. I like the list making because it helps to eliminate silly gifts that no one wants (you still get one or two, but not much) and it's helpful to people buying for you. The only thing I *don't* like about it is that sometimes it means you know exactly what you're getting for Christmas and sometimes the buyers forget to just buy something spontaneous (not on the list) that they think you would like. I like the surprise part of it, and with our lists, there aren't TOO many surprises.

Anon- My BIL makes the spreadsheet for his list, too! LOL He's a Major in the Army SF and EVERYTHING is in a spreadsheet. :)

By Imamommyx4 on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 - 10:10 pm:

You can get a gas mask from Army surplus stores. And I'm sorry that I know that. :)

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 - 10:48 pm:

Debbie, it is okay, I knew that too.

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 01:05 am:

Could it be that when he wrote it up he already knew that he wasn't going to get everything on his list, but that he is hoping that he might at least get *one* thing?

I look at my son's Christmas list (he's 11) and it's like he thinks mom and dad have cash oozing out our ears. I told him a long time ago not to expect everything on his list, so now he writes on it at the top "At least one of these" and puts the things he wants the most at the top.

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 08:14 pm:

My dh wants weird things, too and will e-mail me the websites with the exact item marked. He knows I could never pick out some of the odd stuff he wants.

By Reds9298 on Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 08:56 pm:

Cocoabutter - I remember my parents telling me the same thing when we made out our lists as kids, so we would put them in order of what we wanted *most*. My DH STILL does that! :)
