Did you stay up until Midnight?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Did you stay up until Midnight?
By Jackie on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 08:13 am:

I was just curious who actually stayed up until Midnight.
I can see WE DID NOT! I think I was asleep before 9pm. Me and My daughter laid in bed and watched the "Shrek" movie, her choice. And, Im the only one that ended up falling asleep. My son was disappointed that he wasnt able to stay up until midnight, as my husband put him to bed a little after 9pm...I guess we are just plain old boring over here. LOL

By Gammiejoan on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 08:32 am:

My husband and I made it until 11:30 and then just absolutely could not keep our eyes open any longer. We had watched a movie until around 11:00. Oh, well, we were awfully close to making it. LOL!

By Marg on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 08:39 am:

I think it was 9:30, dh came to bed at 11, he watches tv in the bedroom while I sleep. I awoke to the tv saying they were holding a British flight at Dulles due to suspicious circumstances.

By Conni on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 09:33 am:

We had a good night. We had chicken enchilada's for dinner (@ brad's request), I baked no bake cookies for dh (one of his favorites). Then we watched Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation! LOL We watch that every yr around Christmas. It was hilarious once again. Afte that we taught the older boys to play Gin Rummy. Played cards until midnight and then I PASSED OUT in my bed. LOL! It was all I could do to make it until midnight. But I did it!! :)

Dh had to work today so he woke me up early. I went back to sleep and the next thing I know my 3 yr old is up and ready for me to get out of bed. ugh!!!!!!!!! Why cant he sleep in??? I am so tired. I cant remember the last time I slept past 7:45am. I never get to sleep any longer than that.

Oh well~ we had a good New Years, I hope you all did too.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 09:38 am:

We stayed up till about 12:30. We went to my brother's house. He had some friends over and we did a White Elephant gift exchange...it was fun. Then we played a game called "Fact or Crap". IT's pretty much how it sounds. Someone reads a statement and you hold up a sign saying whether you think it is a Fact or Crap. It was pretty funny.
We rang in the new year, popped some noisemaker poppers and hugged and kissed everyone. Hummed Old Lange Syne (sp?) cause noone knows the words :) and got home by 12:30 and practically fell asleep before we hit the bed.

It was a lot of fun!

By Sue3 on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 09:47 am:

We saw the new year come in !
My youngest ds was very curious about the
glass ball dropping , he wanted to know all about it.
He and dh stayed awake till 11:00 , then my two dd`s and myself
woke them up right before the new year with noise makers.
It was fun!The first year for us that we all saw the new year come in together.
Now today we are getting ready to go to a
hotel with friends for some swimming and
alot of fun.

By Brandy on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 09:48 am:

Me and Danny made it until maybe 12:30 lol and that was pushing it.The boys went to sleep about oh 9:30 lol..I usually make a big deal of them staying awake but this year i didn't ..

We didn't have *huge* plans, but we were quite a boring group. Jeff and his g/f were supposed to go out and he fell asleep; she was sitting here watching TV with the old farts. He finally woke up around 11 and they left.

Jen had a couple of friends over and they had tons of fireworks, but Jen's really sick with either a bad cold or the flu, and she asked them to leave around 10 and she went to bed.

DH and I were watching Dick Clark on TV, then when the local stations took him off, I watched the Sex and the City marathon on HBO. DH fell asleep since he had to work this morning. I clicked back over to network about 2 minutes before midnight and they were showing the *delay* of the ball dropping at Times Square so I woke him up and kissed him Happy New Year.

Boring night. This is the first New Year I can remember since being a teenager that I wasn't outside watching fireworks, or doing SOMEthing. I even went outside when I had back surgery 3 years ago. My excuse is that I wasn't feeling too great myself - I *think* I caught strep from Madison.

By Mommyathome on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 11:23 am:

DH and I made it to midnight. We were watching TV in bed. The kids were all in bed before 9:00. About 3 minutes before midnight, Cooper comes wandering in our room, so we helped him up on the bed. He rang in the new year with us...which consisted of watching the delayed ball drop LOL. How exciting.

At midnight, the fire station sounded their siren, and that brought my 4 y/o running to our room in a crying panic. So, we explained it was just to celebrate, not an emergency.

We all hugged and kisses, then DH put the kids back in bed. Our 5 y/o didn't hardly wake up at all. DH went in to tell her happy new year and her head was under the pillow. She said she was trying to sleep. And, that was about it! Pretty boring night.
~Happy 2004!~

We were up until about 2am! LOL! DH and I are nightowls in the first place, though. We went to my friend Edie's house. She made Chinese food, which we eat in these pocket bread sort of things. It's so yummy and I should really get the recipe from her. I brought pistachio fruit salad and carrots with dip.

After supper, we nibbled on cookies and played games. Our games of choice were Guesstures (sort of like charades under pressure, since you are timed), Thinkblot (looking at inkblot pictures and writing down what you see, then comparing what you saw with everyone else and getting point for being original), and then Cranium (have to do lots of different things, hum songs, draw with your eyes closed, act like a famous actor, sculpt things with clay, etc.). It was fun, although my 11yo lost interest at one point. It was kind of long. The rest of us enjoyed it, though.

At midnight, we toasted the new year with sparkling cherry juice and birthday cake. My friend's DH's birthday is on the first.

We stayed and talked for another hour and then finally wandered home. It's how we have spent New Year's for about the last 5 years or so!

We had a long drive home yesterday and got back around 9:00. We were all beat and went to bed as soon as the car was unloaded. However, I was unable to sleep so I kept the tv on and watched the ball drop at midnight. So I was awake, but I was the only one.

By Pamt on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 11:58 am:

My oldest DS had a friend sleepover and DH had a youth event at church until ~9:00 pm. We ate pizza and chip and dip, they played Game Cube, we tried to watch movies, but our VHS and DVD players were not working for some reason. At midnight we watched to ball drop, made lots of noise, and threw streamers, then we broke out the sparkling cider. Bed time at about 12:30 am with all 3 boys sleeping in the den. Not too difficult to for DH and I to stay up that late since we usually go to bed about 11-11:30. However, I told the kids that they would HAVE to take a nap today :)

By Kim on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 12:41 pm:

took kids to parents and brought all of our overnight stuff! they had no idea we were spending the night. my little bro was there too. we had a blast actually, and all of us except for my 24 y/o brother stayed up to greet the new year! Kayla was out not two minutes after! It was fun!

By Mommmie on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 01:10 pm:

My son and I went over to his best friend's house where they were having a party - same thing as last year. It was Kareoke Time! There was a lot of drinking and loud singing and dancing. At one point, the hostess put down her microphone went and got the fire extinquisher and put out the fire the smokers had started in the backyard, came back and started singing again without missing a beat.

The 8 boys in attendance played Mario Party 5 on GameCube for 5 straight hours. 4 controllers so they had a great time doing that. At 11:00 when the ball dropped in New York we turned that on and did a screaming countdown with all the kids and everything. Then the hostess danced on the coffee table until our midnight, an hour later. All the kids got pots and pans and went running wildly banging them up and down the front yards. Then at 12:10 the hostess put on her PJs which was our hint to leave. It was pretty funny!

Happy New Year!

All of us went to our parents house for an overnight stay. My ds and baby sis stayed up with us till midnight. They had a blast since they usually do not get to stay up that late. We got them to bed around 12:15am..and the rest of us stayed up until 2am. It was great!

We were going to go celebrate New Years with our extended family, but the baby has the beginning stages of RSV, and with Mike just getting out of ICU, we decided to stay in. We went outside for a couple of minutes at midnight to see the fireworks in the sky. Mike and I kissed, and that's about it. Much more exciting than recent events in our life though, LOL!

By Mrse on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 03:48 pm:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
We stayed home, my sister and her family came over, and my girlfriend, and her boyfriend, also. We turned on the tunes, and sang along with the music, and danced, the guys, were playing air hockey on and off all night. Lots of good treats, stayed up untill, 2 this morning partying, everyone spent the night. I cleaned up, off and on, all night, so this morning, everything was nice, and clean , and slept in untill 9 this morning. Lastnight I shut off all the lights in the kitchen, and had candles on the table, and put the screen on the woodstove, so we could see the fire, the living room, was only lit up with the christmas tree lights, and the garland lights I have on the mantle. It all looked so nice. I did not drink much so I feel really good today! Happy New year to all.

Oldest DD and I were the only ones to last until Midnight. And we just watched tv and surfed the net until ten till then we switched over to Dick Clark and watched the ball drop. Not much different than any other night.

Amy I bet that was one of the best New Years kisses you have ever had..... Glad you got to spend it together...

By Mommyathome on Thursday, January 1, 2004 - 10:25 pm:

Amy, I hope little Seth is feeling better soon. My middle DD got a severe case of RSV when she was just a few months old (5 months I think)...it is definitely not fun, and definitely not something you should have to deal with right now. You guys need a break!

We went to see Peter Pan and then joined friends for a progressive dinner. We rang in the New Year at John and Carolyn's house. We stayed until about 1:30. We had breakfast at Pam's place at 9 this morning. We stayed there until noon. I've been cooking the rest of the day. Our big Open House will be here on Sunday. We have 75 coming.
